We spent 2 weeks on the Ruby in November in a balcony cabin. The mattresses and linens were absolutely wonderful and I am very picky about such things!! :D
-
They were wood. And old and very small but I now know anything wood might have insects in which could destroy the fragile ecosystem of Australia.
I wonder what they do about wooden boats or ships with wooden parts which visit Australia? Or driftwood?
Or insects which fly from neighboring countries?
Got it..

Australian Customs are very thorough. Confiscated my rosary beads and they had been blessed by the Pope!
Why???

OP here. We did eventually go for the mini, a splurge for us, but with a lot of sea days, I think it will be wonderful! Good to know about the lack of noise. Thanks.

We had the AIBP in Nov on the Ruby. In the dining room it was a real issue. Could not get wine (especially a second glass) in the MDR. It was horrendously slow and they made the waiter fill out a drink form for each beverage and for each person. Tons of extra work for the waiters. Maybe it was just because of the AIBP.

Had canapés on the Ruby in Nov. (CC party)

Let me reiterate that, it is really cold here!! I feel sorry for the workers. I hope none of them ventured out last night because the roads were a nightmare....Our neighbor left work at 6 and got home at 12:30 am!! This is really not normal for here....I can't wait until we get to our winter home~ :D

Chief: How will below freezing temps affect the work, because we are definitely going to see that this week.

My husband left the UK this morning to go and meet the ship for dry dock. In a purely selfish way, the issue with the platform gave us an extra few days together as he was meant to leave on Wednesday after only returning from another ship last Saturday. However, now he has the same amount of work to do in less time, so it's going to be busy busy for him!
He was meant to be returning on the 20th, but I think now it might be the 23rd. He's been doing this work around 9 years, and this will the closest to Christmas day that he's come home, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed it all goes to plan! I know he will work day and night to get done on time if he can :)
We welcome your husband to Portland. He just missed a pretty good ice storm and had it been yesterday or the day before, he wouldn't have made it. We are supposed to have some dry days later in the week. Not sure how the hull painting will go with our Oregon rains...

Who told you that and which ships?
2 cargo ships were bumped I was told.

And empty cabins and all those who sail with someone, whomever it may be, and don't want their name and/or Captain's Circle status on display. Ours comes down whether cruising solo or together, makes no difference...
You are right, my original comment was with a wink. And now, all my comments are regretted as I obviously should have never entered this thread.

Its not always fake names, but the names of the previous cruisers in the cabin if the cabin is now unoccupied. A couple of years ago I did a B2B. The first week i was traveling with some friends that were in the cabin next to me. They cold only travel one week. After turn around day I noticed their names were still on the cabin mailbox next to me. I asked Stewart, and he said that when a cabin is empty they typically leave the previous peoples name tag there so it doesnt look like there are empty cabins. This way people wont g to the front desk and ask for upgrades. :)
Thank you.

If you say so...
I do indeed! :D Actually, I don't but the PSD told a group of us at a MTP party about a year ago. Perhaps he was pulling our legs.

Do you by chance have the web cam site for the Columbia River? Would love to watch it also.
Sharon
Sorry, I don't, but I'm going to check it out. I have a friend who works at the dry dock and he's going to let me know when she scheduled to come in. If it's a reasonable time of day, we'll go see her in person!
-
huh?
Passengers seeing cabins empty and wanting to be upgraded to those cabins. This does indeed happen.
-
People wanting upgrades to unoccupied suites for one.
-
And empty cabins.
Did you know that Princess frequently puts name tags on empty cabins?
-
Great, now the "weirdos" out there will be looking for the cabins w/o name tags...those are all the solo cruisers...;)
-
We want to watch her come down the river....Princess used to dry dock here a lot, but it's only recently been that the cruise ships are coming back. We have the largest "floating" dry dock in the country. I've got to figure out the time table and hopefully we can "greet" her! Now, if they can get in here to dry dock, I wish Portland would become a port city. It would be a great stop.
-
I know it might be hard, but can you explain how the set up is better on the other Princess ships? It seems to me, most balcony cabins are the same no matter what ship. Is there room for the stairs between the beds? Or are the beds "drop down". Thank you.
-
I want to know who was fired and what their punishment was. Will knowing that do any good? No. Will I feel better seeing exactly who and how many people got axed? Yes. I am so ashamed of Princess to whom I've been so loyal and to the senior officers who knew what was happening. Whether it was "corporate culture" or not, you should have known better.

Ours recently on a 7 day was $199. It was never quite clear if that included formal portraits. I think it was just the "small" shots?? I don't know.
-
Not making final payment will also cancel a cruise.
-
I don't think you can charge in the casino without putting a deposit down on your account first.
