  1. Normal reaction by government departments when their budgets are cut or limited. They reduce the positions that provide services for the public and keep all of the management and back office positions staffed. That creates the out cry that they need more budget and staffing. Kind of a cynical approach but it does work.

Happens all the time at pretty much all levels.

You hit the nail on the head! I wish more people understood this about our government and yes at all levels. School boards are the worst with this tactic.

  2. How was Blu? Your post is timely! I love to hear from folks just before we board. Were there any menu changes or menus to not miss?

The Blu was great. The matrie'd, Shah, was awesome. Our waiter, Soe, was awesome. The wine guy, Onur, was above awesome. When we were not impressed with the wines he found something that was not on the list that fit the bill. I am not implying that the wine list was not good, it was, but after the 3rd night we were ready to try something different and he more than obliged.

  3. That is the exact cabin that we are in come Feb. Do you have any pix that you could post of the cabin or proximity to the ocean view?

Thank you for your comments. Happy Cruising

Sorry no pictures. Best things about this cabin are:

    Deck is huge

very close to bar..less than one minute travel time.

Music... we could sit on the balcony and catch the whole sail away music and for this week it was the Lost Boys and for us they were great. Several times they were encouraged and provided encores.

    Cabin steward, Marvin, was great.

You are right above the oceanview and there are steps down on both sides. Very convenient for the wife to fetch snacks and drinks;)

If you are shy.. you may want to put on a robe before wandering out to the balcony in the morning.

  4. Just off the summit on 11/15. Fantastic cruise. First time on the summit and definitely would do her again. Ship was in great shape. Crew was excellent.

Stayed in AFT 1138. Great cabin.

Food and service in the Blu was exceptional.

Music was perfect in the oceanview right below our cabin. Lost Boys played most nights and had to do encores.

Martini bar music was not loud. Service was great.

Qsine was lot of fun and perfect service.

Loved the new menu in the Bistro. Well worth $7.

Buffet was good. Lots of variety.

Plenty of places to grab some sun on our one sea day.

Over all the Summit exceeded our expectations. Nothing at all to complain about.

  5. Friends have been waiting over 3-1/2 hours to get off the Reflection TA

Last year we wait about 3 hours to get off the Equniox after the fall TA

Why is the US customs so crappy, it does not take any time at all to clear customs heading into Europe?

Government agency..they are all run crappy because there is no accountability.

  6. Gotta ask-- how raunchy is it? I know they say it's "tasteful adult" but I don't know what that means.

On our Equinox cruise it was not bad, but people did walk out. Don't know what they expected when it said adult content. No one was picked on in the audience.

The dancer was very tasteful.. not Miley Cyrus type moves.

Overall it was entertaining. Not great..Not Bad. Something to do at midnight.

  7. Just seen this thread and loving it!

This whole topic has been winding me up for a while.

Looking at member reviews and forum posts over the last few months there seem to be more and more people, especially those who've cruised a few times to think that they are special and expect something superior to the rest of us.

Cruising has become one the most popular forms of holiday and is......wait for it.......

mass market. It is no longer for the very rich and very fortunate, it's a holiday camp on the high seas. It may be a very nice holiday camp with lovely food and great entertainment, but essentially that's exactly what it is!

"Staff" from the Captain down to the guy who cleans out the bilges are there to do a job. Praise exceptional service by all means, but essentially for them it's their job. Why do people need to be on first name terms with their waiter, why do people care about the Elite Club hosts, who cares if the Captain doesn't personally ask you about your holiday experience. Who cares whether you get towel animals every day, once or never....did it ruin your holiday if you didn't? Who needs an Orio on your pillow every night, haven't you had enough to eat! Surely, it is the whole experience that matters and not whether you believe you should be treated like royalty.

It seems that too many people are taking cruises and spending their entire holiday trying to find fault and maintaining that their holiday has been ruined by the smallest defect or problem.

And lastly, for those who go round trying to look for any sign of aging and wear and tear, how well would your home stand up if you had 2,000+ people rampaging through it every week!

    Rant over!

Love your post and your picture!

This forum provides a lot of good useful information. But it also provides a forum for those who like to feel important (nothing wrong with that.. just saying) which for people like me provides a lot of amuseing and thankful moments. :)

  8. Booked my last two cruises directly with Celebrity and have nothing but good things to say. But there again I have never had a problem with Celebrity's website, which takes quite a beating here on this forum.

    Guess I am just lucky.:)

  9. As a professional G-IV Captain I would never book a flight on American Airlines. They are always on strike. It's a company were all the different groups of employees hate each other. I know this because I have a very good friend at American Eagle who works for the Union. He thinks strikes are a good thing.

    CaptDave

All unions think strikes are a good thing! A dinosaur institution that has long out lived it usefulness:).

  10. Music, like food, is very subjective. On our last two Celebrity cruises, Equinox and Eclipse, we enjoyed the the Martini Bar every night. Music was not too loud but also was not to our taste. We would prefer modern country or Real Rock and Roll (pre 1978 :)). Niether is going to happen so that is why Ipods and noise resistant headphones are a must!

  11. Hi,

I've considered a cruise a few times in the past but never quite got to the booking stage. However, our kids are getting older and it seems like the perfect time for my wife and I to give it a try.

I am looking to book the Ultimate Carribean Cruise on Celebrity Equinox leaving from Fort Lauderdale in March. I am debating whether to book a C2 Concierge Class or an A2 Aqua Class suite. The prices for both are very similar. I have no idea what the best cabin location would be and would really appreciate any advice ? Ideally, we would like a quiet cabin, balcony with an unobstructed view so we can sit, relax and watch the world go by. I read that the hump cabins have larger balconies, great views etc but would there be a lot of noise due to their proximity to the elevevators etc ?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

We did this cruise last January. You will love it. We were in cabin 1504. No noise and right next to the relaxation room and close to the stairs that go straight to the spa. Stay in Aqua class it is worth it. You are too late to get a hump cabin unless you are very lucky. Don't miss the persian garden.

    Have fun

  12. We are thinking of going on the panama canal cruise on the Wonder. Cannot figure out from the website how the dinning works. Seems to be several adult only restuarants. My question is are these like speciality restuarants on Celebrity where you pay additional and make reservations for any time?

We have traveled exclusively on Celebrity, but this ship looked interesting and considering giving it a go. Like the Celebrity website everything is pretty vague.

  13. Thank you for the update Orator & Arno. Personally, while we've enjoyed it on past sailings, we could live without it. With that said, I suspect this isnt going to sit well with many of the Celebrity faithful.

I agree. We went on the Equinox in January and it was beautiful, but really how much is too much. Nothing really new and what a waste. At the end all of that food goes in the garbage.

  14. I think it all comes down to $. The light/lite beers are both cheap

(So more profit per beer) and popular (so they're fine for most beer drinkers). I'm curious how well the more crafty beers sell on Celebrity. I'd definitely drink a Dogfish Head, Ommegang, or even a Sam Adams, but I wonder if there's enough of a market to tip the scales.

Just got off the Celebrity Equinox last week and enjoyed all of the beers you mentioned several times with our drink package. Never would have paid for them individually as they were listed at $8-10 per bottle. Celebrity really spoils you with the drink package. Does Princess have one? We have been looking at Princess for a Panama Canal cruise and starting to do some price comparisons.

  15. Very interesting thread. We're sailing on Celebrity in late January, and look forward to the formal nights. I will not wear a Tux, but for sure a suit or dinner jacket & tie. Having read the thread it seems there are two camps. One that respects what is expected and desired, and one that feels rules or suggested rules are for others, but not them. I respect everyone's opinion on this issue, however to sign up for a cruise that has established guidelines and not respect them seems very arrogant to me. As others have suggested, we will enjoy our cruise regardless of how people are dressed in the MDR on formal nights. Yet it is confounding that those who accepted the the formal night rules when they signed up for the cruise, feel they have the right to ignore them.

Arrogant, yes that sums up my feeling about those that thumb thier noses at the rules. What people wear, for me is not the issue, it is the attitude that the rules don't appy to them. The picture on this thread kinda sums it up.
