  1. When we boarded Journey last year, we heard a Scottish accent from a new member of the crew. We started chatting to him, Thomas, the new Food and Beverage manager, and quickly realised he had the "Glasgow patter" and was a very funny guy. Our cruise was to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary and we planned to celebrate it at Chefs Table which was hosted by Eric De Gray. We then, out of the blue, got an invite from Captain Johannes to have dinner with him. We were torn what to do, and in the end, decided to stick to our original plans and sent our regrets. We went to chefs table and had a lovely evening.

On retiring to bed that night we were horrified when we picked up the Daily Pursuit to see our faces splattered across the front page with the headline "SCOTTISH COUPLE HAVE BRASS NECK TO DUMP THE CAPTAIN"!!!! :o Somehow, Thomas got wind of us having "dumped" the Captain and went to great lengths to play a practical joke on us. It was only when my husband went to reception and seen the "real" Daily Pursuit that the penny dropped and we were laughing hysterically! :')

I'm sure you also had a part to play in this Phil! :D

  2. Because there are 80 people and I for sure did not expect this to happen. For once can;t you be nice and compassionate. As I said I did not expect any of this to happen. If you read again what I just said even the TA and it is a worldwide one has not been informed only me and only in phone calls. Do you think I wanted this to happen and not go after all the clothes I bought, an extra 4 days in Dubai etc. For them to do this to me only 2 weeks before the cruise is wrong. I booked it 18 months ago. Where have they been and why this 2 weeks before?? This is costing me over $10000 and I am not happy so for once give a person a break without arguement or some snippy comment.

I fail to understand why you think excitedofharpendens post is snippy and argumentative. He is, without doubt, one of the most helpful posters on this forum and is always polite, helpful and informative. Perhaps your attitude is why Azamara have cancelled your cruise?

  3. Totally my feeling too Lottie. The thinking all just seems to be about revenue now with little balance. Take the sales area off deck 4, put in extra cabins there, move the sales area to deck 5 so that when sitting and relaxing in Spirits you now have to look at banners advertising cruises. Sit in Mosaic and you look at a room taken up by an "art"gallery. Azamara's always boasted that it has the feeling of a country club. This new look isn’t anything like a country club I’ve been to.

It’s very sad to see the (Royal Caribbean?) bean counters are at work. Not satisfied with selling more space on their ships they have to do a bit more. Why didn’t they just leave it alone and realise that they are spoiling the very thing that makes the line special? These latest photos from Journey show it’s a trend.

Gets off soapbox for the moment.

    Phil

Totally agree with you Phil, its becoming a ship I'm no longer familiar with. :( Please listen Azamara.

  4. I had a message back from an experienced cruise friend of mine today who is on Journey at the moment and I asked him about the entertainment. His comment was "The shows are horrible. Honestly. OMG."

    Phil

Let’s hope it improves before June.

  5. The rules for the UK best price guarantee are certainly not what we were quoted by the onboard sales lady when we booked on board in June 2017.

Nor me. I was told the booking would be exactly the same except I’d get the lower price applied if the price of the cruise dropped. Rather disappointing.

  6. When I have booked in November 2017, I was told onboard that if I found a better price, under the price guarantee, I could apply for it and keep all my benefits of booking onboard.

    Ivi

I was also told this but when my cruise reduced by £700+ my TA was told I forfeited this by getting the reduced price. Perhaps Bonnie could clarify if that is the correct information?

  7. I was told onboard I would keep any credit if I changed a booking made onboard. However I am not sure when that concession came in. I did the onboard booking in December 2017, not had cause to test the rule and to be honest don’t expect to as the booking was at a great price.

Maybe you want to check up again

I booked onboard in June 17 and the price reduced in October 17. I will look into this UKtog but think Azamara just make up the rules to suit themselves. Guatemala are useless to deal with so I may just contact Richard Twynam.

  8. I might be wrong but I was under the impression that onboard bookings even for U.K. guests gave some extra rights like being able to cancel and rebook with no penalty. We were certainly able to do that for our September cruise this year and retained all of our onboard booking perks.

Don’t think it applies to open passage bookings, and of course things are changing all the time.

Did you manage to keep your OBC? We booked onboard last June for this coming June. I noticed the price dropped by £750 a few months later and asked my TA to ask Azamara to apply the new rate as best price promise only to be told we lost all our OBC. Doesn’t seem fair to me and certainly doesn’t encourage me to book ahead.

  9. I think you explained yourself very well Phil.

Your helpful and knowledgeable posts on this forum are appreciated by all of us. You are never sarcastic or snippy with anyone, speak from a huge knowledge base of all things Azamara and really try to help people. Not the case with some other posters here.

I totally agree Lottie. Phil is one of the nicest people you could meet. I’m fortunate to have had the pleasure of his company on our last cruise and thoroughly enjoyed meeting him. He is so helpful on here and never condescending, unlike some others. There should be a “Phil Appreciation Society” :)

  10. I booked onboard and got $500 OBC, some for early booking and some for some kind of promotion perhaps. The price of my cruise reduced by £750 and I contacted my TA who called and got the best price promise but was informed I lose my OBC. Is this correct?
