  1. I have a question for those who have sailed in the very Aft cabins. Is the movement of the ship that much more extreme than in those Aft cabins than the ones towards the middle of the ship? I ask because the very Aft cabins of the ship look so much more desirable, with having a view of the wake of the boat and the larger balconies. My wife and I just completed our 1st cruise, in a cabin towards the middle of the ship, and my wife did wonderful. She has been know to get sea sick on small sail boats, but on the Golden Princess she did wonderful with just some ginger pills and Sea Bands. I would like to book our next cruise in an Aft cabin, but don't want to push our luck with possibly her getting sea sick because of the exaggerated movement that may be felt in an Aft cabin. I would greatly appreciate the input of any and all.

    Thank you.

My wife is the same way as yours. She got sick on a harbor tour in San Francisco before. Last year we booked the furthest aft mini suite on the Sapphire princess and for 6 out of 7 days we were perfectly fine. One day however, I blame it on rough seas, we were both in bed feeling not too great. Our room was on the 8th deck, so I don't know if a aft cabin on a lower deck kinda balances out a bit. That was our first cruise so I don't know how much movement you feel in other locations of the ship.

  2. My Golden cruise leaves this Thursday.

I received this in my email describing staggered boardings:

12:30 PM - Dolphin, Fiesta & Emerald Decks: Cabins begin with D, E and F

1:15 PM - Caribe, Sun & Riviera Decks: Cabins begin with C, S and R

2:00 PM - Aloha & Baja Decks: Cabins begin with A and B

2:30 PM - Lido & Plaza Decks: Cabins begin with L and P

By the looks of this we can't board until 2:00pm since we are on Aloha deck and we will miss the Embarkation Lunch that everyone always raves about.

    Do they really enforce this?

  3. Go to Princess.com and check On-Board Experiences-Dining. This should give you (relying on my memory) a listing of what dining venues there are, and on which ships. HTH.

    Crochetcruise

Found it, thanks you, was rather hard to find. I didn't know there was a 20 dollar surcharge.

    To answer some questions:

    Crab Shack

Caribbean, Coral, Crown, Emerald, Golden, Grand, Island, Regal, Royal, Ruby, Star Princess.

    ^Full list.

  4. Booked a forward, lower deck balcony guarantee Nov. 5th for the Nov. 20th Golden 3 day.

Nov. 11th, received our cabin which was an upgrade to a Aloha deck, mid aft cabin.

Nov. 12th, received an upsell offer that I still don't know all the details for. It's 80 bucks extra per person for 80 extra square footage. I just called on it, hopefully I'll know all the details tomorrow.

  5. I'm looking at pictures of the Star and I'm confused how the forward Deck 8 balconies work in relationship to the stairs from Deck 7 to Deck 8. Do the stairs go directly in front of the balconies? It looks like the balconies a very set back. Can you look down to the water or are you looking down on the Promenade Deck?

    Thanks,

I looked at pictures of the Golden and while I don't know from personal experience, it looks like they overlook the Promenade Deck.

  6. I received a mystery up sell offer also. I'm booked in a regular balcony on the Golden for next Thursday.

"Cruise 3 nights while enjoying up to nearly 80 sq/ft of extra living space for only an additional $79 USD per person! Upgrade cost is in addition to the fare already paid and is based on double occupancy. Travel Protection premium may increase, if previously purchased."

    ^^^I'm guessing it's a mini suite?

  7. Did you really need so much internet time to contact your cousin that the expense was worth getting upset about? Seems it should not take you even 5 minutes to send a quick email. If you pay by the minute that is $3.75
My cousin doesn't LIVE in PV, just near it. So I wasn't content with just sending her an email in the HOPES that she read it before she set out to PV. I was online a good amount of time trying to make sure I got in contact either with her or another cousin that I knew could contact her directly.

Like I said previously, it wasn't worth my time to fight it once we returned from the cruise. However, it was enough to get upset over because the principal of the matter and the fact that I didn't feel Princess handled the matter correctly. Prior to that, we hadn't used the Internet all cruise nor had plans on doing so.

  8. I'm glad to see that Princess is offering free internet and phone for people to make changes.

Last December on our first cruise ever, a passenger had a medical emergency shortly after leaving Cabo San Lucas en route to Puerto Vallarta. The Captain turned the ship around and went back to Cabo to debark the passenger. That caused him to cancel the port in PV and gave us a second day in Cabo. While I was understanding of the situation I was a bit angry that Princess wouldn't waive my internet charges. I had to use the Internet to contact my cousin that was meeting us in PV to let her know of the cancellation. The absolute best I could do was that they waived half of my charges. I'm sure if I contacted Princess after the fact I could've received a full refund but it wasn't worth my time.

  9. Again, there is zero privacy on the forward balconies on Emerald -- all the people traveling up and down the stairs from Promenade to Emerald look onto those balconies.

The balconies on Aloha are covered.

I just saw pictures of this and almost smacked myself for my original booking. Taking this upgrade and running with it. Hoping for a quiet Horizon Court.

  10. I'd take it. If you are on one of the ships where the Promenade deck goes up to deck 8 at the bow (such as Star Princess) you likely originally booked one of the balcony rooms that looks right out onto the Promenade. I'd take the Aloha balcony.
We're booked for the Golden Princess. Does that mean the forward balconies are not covered? Are the balconies on Aloha deck covered? I assume not?

This, actually, isn't true. You can book a guarantee for sections of the ship. The website shows the following sections and, each one of them, you can choose a guarantee: aft, mid-aft, midship, forward. In addition, you can choose the deck.

Having said that, there's no telling where anyone booking those guarantees would end up.

Thank you. I get it that this is only my second cruise but I can read and I know what I booked.

  11. I don't believe there's any "declining" when you book a guarantee and are assigned a cabin in the category you booked or better.

In the email they sent, it specifically says I can decline it. I have to call within 48 hours.

  12. My second cruise ever with Princess and "Upgrade Fairy" paid us a visit.

We were booked on a guaranteed balcony on deck 8 in the front of the ship. Just received an email that we've been "upgraded" to Aloha Deck, mid aft. I have 48 hours and counting to decline it.

Pros: We moved from the front to the mid aft and no longer possibly above the Princess Theater.

Cons: We moved to right below the Horizon Court and higher up on the ship so we may feel more of the sway.

My question is, keep it or decline it?

  13. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the responses. I believe the only questions remaining are; does anyone know what the dimensions are for my luggage to fit into the scanner? Also, our cruise leaves on a Thursday; so I am assuming Sailaway takes precedence over MUTS?
