  1. Please help me with advice on whether I should do the Oasis or the Breeze!

We booked on the RCI Oasis of the Seas in February. We are sailing Nov 29 2014 from Ft Lauderdale. We got a GREAT deal (I think) - a Central Park Balcony (C1) for $1680 CAD, taxes in, + a $150 OBC. That is for 2 adults. Final payment is due 9/15. All was well with the world.

We also considered NCLs Getaway and the Carnival Breeze but the deals were not good enough to make us change.

I happened to log into my Carnival account today as I was looking for information for a March Break trip. I noticed I had a Casino Offer. I thought I would take a look to see what the Breeze came up as. Now I am tempted to change. I can get a inside stateroom for $660.32 or a balcony for $900.32.

Travelling is me (38) and my husband Paul (39). We do not do shore excursions or signature dining (we only eat where the food is included).

    Here are the itineraries

Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas

    7 Night Eastern Caribbean

Sails to: Nassau, Bahamas; Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas; Philipsburg, St. Maarten

    Central Park Balcony C1 - $1680 CAD, taxes in, + a $150 OBC

    Carnival Breeze

    6 Day Eastern Caribbean

Sails to: Ocho Rios, Jamaica; Grand Turk; Nassau, The Bahamas

    inside stateroom - $660.32

    Balcony - $900.32

Thanks in advance for the help![/quote ]

Is the net difference of $400 A FACTOR? The $990.32 didn't include tax & port I assume so the net is about $400. Oasis &/or Allure are Destination ships due to their size and well worth the difference IMHO Read the member reviews on the Breeze here on CC first

  2. If you'd like a fun time go to Jacks Shack ( You can google it or go to the Ports of Call forum and then to Caribbean and then to Private Islands you'll see Grand Turk. Look for discussions on things to do and of course Jacks Shack

  3. Sailing out of Miami on Jan. 5th, 2015. Does anyone have suggestions for parking not at the cruise port, or a hotel that offers cruise parking with a hotel stay?

This question is best asked on the Ports of call/ United States / Miami forum as you'll get many varied answers. When you get to that forum page of threads for Miami then search for Parking There are many opinions on this one and I've had great luck using off site parkingat $4.95-$6.95 per day rather than the $20.00 per day at the port but just ask and form your own opinion

  4. After you book join the roll call for your cruise here on CC. You will find that there are many experienced cruisers on your cruise and they will be a wealth of info and help. You MAY even find yourself some new friends and excursion partners and dining partners ( I do Anytime Dining and that way you aren't locked in to the same people at your table every night and I'm sure there will be people in your CC roll call group doing ATD as well) Mayan ruins are AWESOME ( See my pics Below from Belize Altun Ha Ruins) Ken

  5. OK Maybe not the best idea, but again it depends on how far you're traveling from home. Long distance I would wear the coat and pack the pants which fold much easier. OK it may look geeky, but when you're done with your cruise just pack it and send it to the drycleaners when you get home. If this is not feasible then I'd suggest having your room steward send it to the ships cleaners with STRICT INSTRUCTIONS to just steam out the wrinkles. Ken

  6. I've been lucky enough to get a large 4J on the Lido deck usually 9203 althought some have been remodeled to become an ocean suite over the Outcroppings of the bridge (see beyondships.com for deck plans) those 4Js give you the price of an inside +11.50/pp/day but a window and access to the "Secret Balcony" outside. OK its at the front of the ship but I've never really felt the movement like some do. It's a quick walk down to the buffet and the pool

  7. With the election coming up, we are getting constant calls about our voting preferences and "surveys". Unfortunately they do not fall under the Do Not Call laws. Quite frustrating. Yesterday, I had 4 calls between 5-5:30. And, some of them come up on my caller id as "cell phone" and a local number. Grrr!

When I worked on a political campaign in Iowa during the caucuses prior to the 2008 elections we had a call room where we were given cell phones all with local area codes. The do this so the people you're calling don't know! Devious but it worked.

  8. was in 1991 on the TSS Carnivale ( long retired) on a 3 day to the Bahamas. Our Porthole cabin was near the bow and we could hear the anchor being lowered early in the morning! The room was like a closet! But the dinner was great when I saw one of my group order 2 lobsters I couldn't believe it!. The ship was small by todays standard but it was when I got hooked on cruising but couldn't afford it till 2003 when we went on the Triumph and had a balcony junior suite.

  9. Same itinerary, basically same price. Which is better for very experienced cruisers who have been on many different lines. Please help!

Well one thing to consider is if you have kids, their age etc. Also Remember the time of the year, especially around holidays and spring break (lots of kids and partyers). And of course your age and lifestyle. Both ships offer many positives.

  10. I recommend joining the FB group Carnival Casino Players. They have great ideas and tips for enjoying yourself. As a member of the players club if you have enough points you get a "drinks on us" sticker while playing

  11. I too get up around 5 ish. I have had a 4J cabin on the lido deck and just walk out on to the "Secret" forward balcony to watch us come into a port. If we're far enough out I stroll down to the buffet and fill my insulated mug with some coffee and grab a Danish if they're out and go back to watch the ship dock. It's also great visiting with other "early birds" both guests and crew as well.

  12. Great idea but PLEASE don't use it to affix anything to the walls in your cabin. I read on a previously posted thread of the duct tape taking the paint off the walls and the occupants receiving a bill from the cruise ship for repainting the walls. the walls are metal and magnets work best for that purpose.

  13. As I don't know what your cabin preference is, I'll put my 2 cents worth in.

1)I had a 4J on the lido. It's categorized as an inside cabin BUT it has a window and faces out to "The Secret balcony" at the front of the ship. There is an upcharge over insides but it places the price similar to an Ocean view on the Main or Riviera decks. They are small UNLESS you can get 9202or9203 which are considered handicapped but usually you won't get bumped.

    2) The Balcony cabins 9290-9294 are right near the entrance to the lido deck area and are still quiet. Great access to the lido & you can run down to the buffet early to get a quick continental breakfast to take back to our cabin, which I did daily.

Go to http://www.beyondships.com/files/Liberty_Deck_Plan_PDF.pdf to see a deck plan which you can view better than the ones on the Carnival website

  14. All those songs are great BUT put them in the Dance clubs at night ONLY. The Loud Blaring Hip-Hop I've heard makes for an annoying time on the Lido which is for relaxing and having fun and can be heard all the way up to the Serenity Deck at times. Play more cruise music / Caribbean music after all we ARE cruising in the Caribbean. IMHO

  15. My Carnival Splendor Repositioning cruise has over 2100 on CC and a ton on Facebook, which is a closed private group. I have been on roll calls that never got off the ground , one on the Carnival Liberty had over 3000 posts on cc. Once on one ship after a fair roll call practically no one showed up at our sail away M&G. My friend "Frito58" on CC said he's had people come to his M&G's that NEVER were on the roll call. People are funny!

  16. You never mentioned the location of your balcony cabin. Had a balcony cabin on the Spa Deck and I had a short trip to the spa to clean up and get ready. People wearing Carnival Robes on the cruise is commonplace as many wear them coming back from the pools. The Spa sink area is very spacious and they do have lockers for you to use while you're in the shower so your make-up etc can be kept safe.

  17. PLEASE as this is your first cruise find out what services the ship offers for your daughters toddlers and young children. These onboard care givers are trained and professional, so your daughter should not feel uneasy about leaving them alone.

I have seen parents with their toddlers trying to cope with a fussy child in the main dining room, at a show, etc. This is not fair for everyone and will add to everyone's stress levels. Make sure your daughter doesn't put a guilt trip on you when you say that you and your DH ( dear husband) want to do something without the burden of watching the kids as well. You said this is your first cruise and it should be a time for everyone involved to relax and have fun. I am sure I will get flamed for my opinion but believe me been there done that on previous cruises.

  18. I think you are missing the point. The cruise line wants to have high spending guests, and it would be a wise decision to make these offers on a case-by-case scenario.

Let's say someone sailed an average of 21 days a year with Azamara and had done so every year for the past 10 years, and then decided that they weren't happy with them for whatever reason. They go to Regent and Silversea and ask both to match the status. The one willing to do that will gain a whale--a high spending, regular guest.

Hotels and airlines do the same thing--it's a very cost effective way to capture the cream of the crop guests.

Cruise lines don't reward you out of the generosity of their hearts, they do so to capture your business and keep you coming back to them, not jumping from line to line. If they can "steal" a whale from another line by offering to match status, they would be making a foolhardy decision to not agree to this. Frankly I think it's pretty ridiculous that someone would get upset about the .001% of passengers that might get status awarded in this manner. In the big picture, it won't affect you at all--and think, you might want the same courtesy with another line some day.

If you remember the TV Show "Vegas" the "Hosts" would ALWAYS be trying to steal the "Whales" away from other casinos. To quote from the movie "The Godfather" ...." Don't take it personal. It's just business!" When Carnival started offering their Faster to the Fun program ( a limit of 15 cabins/cruise paid $49/cabin to get some but not all of the perks that were given to Platinum members) The "Loyal" Platinum members were up in arms. Did that stop them from cruising Carnival? No!

So my point is that it's just good business sense for on a case by case basis a cruise line offer the same perk level to a potential "whale" from a competing cruise line. IMHO

  19. We are sailing on RC for seven nights. We have dining at 5:30. Our ship sails at 4:30. Will we be allowed in our cabin to change for dinner by then? When are we normally allowed in the cabin? Is there dinner even on the first night? Thanks for your help. This is my second cruise but it has been five years.

Regardless of the ship or cruise line you are on embarkation usually begins no later than 12:00 ( noon ) your cabin may not be ready immediately but most likely before 2:00. Plenty of time to get to your cabin BEFORE the mandatory muster drill and begin unpacking and laying out your dinner clothes. Muster Always happens no later than 30 minutes prior to sailing so you'll have time to get ready for dinner go up to the upper deck grab your sail-away drink and watch your port fade into the sea. ENJOY and Happy Cruising!

  20. In November of 2003 me and my family were on the Carnival Triumph. One of our group "volunteered" my exDW to be in the Survivor Contest! She told our Assistant CD Noonan that she couldn't swim. He said No problem it's not that deep, and ther's only one part of the contest in the water. Well she entered ( pictures below) and came in second. Well the video was shown on the ships TV for all to see the rest of the January of 2004 and my exDW & I were at a High School Basketball game Near Des Moines IA. At halftime my exDW was in the bathroom and a lady attending from the other school our team was playing approached her and said " Weren't you in the Survivor Contest on the Triumph in November?" My red faced exDW of course said yes. Pictures below

  21. We are moving to Florida from MN in October....finally no more flying to get to the cruise port.

Just wondered how to find great deals on last minute cruises?

Carnival offers "Pack-n-Go" rates usually 1-3 weeks prior to some of their cruises. You pick the category they pick the room.

  22. One great thing about ATD is that if you like your waiter and crew you can ask to be seated in their section each night, which we did and it made for a fun dining experience as they knew who you were! You may have to wait a bit to be seated in their section but if you go right away you should have no problem

  23. I suggest you use 2 websites to compare. Hotels and Hotwire if you do it right in your search criteria you can pretty much figure out in the secret hotels on hotwire what hotel you'll be at. I just did a search on Hotels and the Courtyard by Marriott was $119

  24. Going on allure of the seas in july. Where is the best viewing spot for when the ship leaves the port?

Depends on what you want to see. The way Port Everglades is configured once you leave the dock you're going straight east. To the left (Starboard) you look north up the coast ( not much to see) To the right (port) you look south and can see All the way to Miami. At the back ( aft ) of the ship you'll be able to see all of Ft Lauderdale and south to Miami and watch Port Everglades fade into the distance. As you get farther out into the ocean the ship then turns slightly to the right so you'll be able to see the Florida coast in the distance
