We always tip at the end. Like you, we decide ahead of time what we'll tip. You can't predict the level of service you'll receive though. We had a horrible butler last October and he received nothing! We have also had great service and tipped more than planned.

If you have chosen either the UBP or SDP you are being charged the 18% gratuity. The amount is based on the cost for the packages if you were to actually purchase them.

I've stayed in the 2BR twice, 4 adults both times. The only way I'm aware of for all 6 to enjoy ALL of the Haven perks is to have everyone in a Haven suite. You can entertain the guest staying in the balcony cabin in your suite only. I believe they can sleep overnight as well. They can join you for meals in the Haven restaurant for a fee. I've heard $35 pp, not 100% sure though. They are not allowed in the lounge, courtyard, or deck areas.

Hmmm, make sure the dates you're picking include that promo. Promos are color coded online. It's easy to overlook the code and pick the wrong dates

We are a family of four and only book during the extra guest free promo. We are suite travelers, but have been considering booking non Haven to save a few bucks. After pricing out a 2BR Haven suite vs two mini suites or spa mini suites, the difference per person is typically $400-$500. For that amount, we just say screw it and book Haven again. It's really hard to go back lol. We don't spend a ton of time in the courtyard or the decks, but the Haven restaurant is perfect. Being able to get reservations when you want..perfect. Walking into the Haven lounge after a long and noisy afternoon...love it!!

The online bookings for some excursions may be sold out but you can book once on board. Yes, booking through NCL is more expensive, but as a solo traveler who hasn't cruised in a while, your comfort and security level may out weigh the added expense.

I'm looking at a sailing next year on the Escape. Both deck 17 DOS are available. I've seen a couple of YouTube videos which show an impressive balcony, but I'm wondering if all that real estate is at all usable while at sea -- owing to perhaps the angle of the front of the ship deflecting a portion of the wind. My guess is "no"! :D
I know that there's a secondary (side) balcony, but it obviously pales in comparison.
Thanks,
Tom
We didn't spend a lot of time on the balcony, but when we did it didn't seem to be very windy. Mostly we would relax on the loungers enjoying the view when arriving and leaving a port. We never once used the "baby balcony". We'll be in the DOS again in August and we plan on using the balcony more often. Windy or not! [emoji18]

9pm sticks out because I remember wanting a particular desert from the Haven restaurant. I was eating dinner at Le Bistro and I knew I had to get my order to my butler before 9.

For any ladies thinking that they can't do The Baths because they are overweight or out of shape, I'm here to tell you that you totally can do them! I did them last week and had no problem. I'm 46, 5'5" and 220 lbs. My "workout" consists of hiking with my dogs and doing a bit of gentle flow yoga. I'm terribly out of shape and I seriously had no problems. I'm not advocating staying out of shape, but if your cruise is quickly approaching and you find that you haven't gotten in as good of shape as you wanted to beforehand, don't fret.
p.s. I do strongly advise wearing good shoes. I wore my Keens, which increased my confidence on the rocks.
Thanks so much for posting this. I'm 43, 5'0, and 215lbs. Seeing the videos on YouTube made me a little wary about the baths. Thanks again for the encouragement!!

Pretty sure only escort off for suites They will help with other things like dining and shows
That makes sense. The concierge meets suite guests in the Haven lounge for disembarkation. Your key card needs to be programmed to allow access to the Haven area. I'm guessing that non Haven platinum members' cards don't give them Haven access otherwise the bar, sun deck, courtyard etc would be pretty crowded.

I would plan to eat dinner at 7pm. That should give you time to see the shows that start at 9pm or later. Allow approximately 2 hours for Teppanyaki

I'm 70 years old and I wear distressed jeans w/rips and holes all the time! I love them! I started wearing them back in the 80s when my favorite jeans from the 60s started wearing out at the knees and hems. I couldn't part with them...too many great memories! I'm just very cautious not to wear them to places where I personally feel they wouldn't be appropriate or at places where a dress code prohibits them. For instance, I would never wear them to church, in the main dining room on a cruise, while traveling abroad, etc. I think they're fun. JMHO!;) I'm also into camo prints and always have been...as a matter-of-fact...I just bought a maxie-length, camo print duster. Love it! Got the duster at Forever XXI and most of my jeans I get at Target...always always on sale. I never spend a lot of money on trendy stuff. To each his own...some hate the style, some love it, and some don't really care...I say...wear what you love! I can afford to buy expensive jeans...I just choose not to. In a gazillion years...even if I were a billionaire (which I'm not...LOL!) I would never spend over $60 on a pair of jeans and that would be stretching it!:)
I love this attitude!!! I'm 43 and someone actually told me that I shouldn't shop at Forever 21 [emoji15]. I'm on the curvy side and their jeans aren't flattering for me. I like their sweaters and tanks. I'm slimming down, but until I get there I'll be paying $99 for jeans at Chico's because they fit [emoji5].

I've stayed in the two bedroom suite on the Getaway, pretty sure it's the same as on the Breakaway. The second bedroom has the couch bed which I believe opens up. My sister slept in that room alone but never pulled the bed out. Not much waking room if you do that. The second bed pulls down from the ceiling. The couch in the living room does not open up. It's like sleeping on a twin size bed...meant for one person only. We referred to the smaller bedroom as the broom closet lol. It's OK for two adults, but it definitely can feel cramped. My daughter and I stayed in the smaller bedroom on the Epic.
Overall, we love the Haven. Having the restaurant and bar there is super convenient. The lounge stays pretty quiet as does the courtyard, at least during the times I've sailed.

actually, distressed jeans are distressed, as in made or processed to appear faded or wrinkled, as if from long, steady use
You're referring to the types of denim washing. For example, stone washed, acid washed, etc. Denim washing changes the color or finishing of the denim. Distressed denim is ripped or torn. I've been wearing distressed jeans for 30 years lol. A simple google search on the terminology will clear that up [emoji5].

I like distressed jeans, but not holey jeans. Character! Holes make me feel slubby.

Distressed jeans have tears, rips, and holes. Hence the term distressed. Some are more extreme than others. Different strokes...

They can visit in your suite and for a fee they can eat in the Haven restaurant. I believe it $35 pp. Not 100% sure on that price though. They will not be allowed in the lounge, bar, and deck areas

Water, as I understand it, is not included with the ultimate beverage package. Is it a perk in the DOS?
Tom
Yes, unlimited bottled water is one of the perks. Also a selection of liquors, and three bottles of wine. All four of us had the UBP as a perk so the free wine and liquor was overkill. We just ordered by the glass throughout the day. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong about how many bottles of wine. Pretty sure it's three though.
