    On our Adventure of the Seas cruise in March, we saw food and drinks being taken away by the ship staff. Only water they sold at the debarkation gate was allowed to be taken off the ship in the ports. 

  2. We've cruised on Carnival about 8 times, and only once (last spring) on RCL. We loved both cruises and will cruise on both again next March.

     

    Both have Your Time Dining, but on RCL, you can book the same time for each evening, before boarding. The Maître D said we would be at the same table too, when we checked in the first evening, which was great. 

     

    Entertainment was a little better on RCL, in my opinion, but the Cruise Director on Carnival was so much better and really got more people to take part in the activities. The CD on our RCL ship reminded me of a low budget game show host who had a huge ego. I wasn't fond of my fellow Canadian, LOL. Wereally enjoyed the ice show on RCL.

     

    Food is about equal in the buffet, but Carnival offers many more choices for dinner in the MDR. We were very impressed with the "washy washy" lady or other staff who greeted us each morning and noon going into the RCL Windjammer, making sure we either washed our hands or/and used Purell to cut down on germs. Carnival had the sanitation stations but so many people ignore them.

     

    Both the apps are great, but we really prefer the Carnival Hub app because of the chat feature. It was so handy when hubby and I were doing different things and trying to find each other, or for arrangements with friends we were cruising with.

    Some of us were here during Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo. My Dad was a NASA Engineer who was part of the capsule team. I worked at KSC for the first Shuttle Launch. 

     

    Dad was on the Apollo redesign team after the fire. 

     

    Dad was here when Apollo 11 was launched and the next day we were off on vacation for two weeks. We watched the lunar walk from Kentucky. 

     

    Good memories. 

    A few years ago, my son gave  Buzz Aldren and his wife private ski lessons at Lake Louise BC. My son said Buzz was a great, down to earth (pardon the pun) nice guy, and a good skier.

    Quite a few of you have been asking about our calls to the Dominican Republic and in particular Amber Cove so I wanted to share this important message with you.

    The safety of our guests is our number one priority. While no Carnival shore excursions visit any of the resorts which have been in the news, we continue to monitor the recent events in the Dominican Republic and routinely review information provided by the U.S. State Department.  The U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo is actively working with the Government of the Dominican Republic and the private sector to ensure that U.S. citizens are safe and feel safe.  

    The food and beverage operation in Amber Cove is run by a global catering company that has been in service for over 25 years and also serves many major airlines and all airports in the Dominican Republic.  By law, they are required to import all their food and beverage products.  All cleaning products used by the facilities operator are approved by the FDA and EPA.  

    So I hope that helps reassure you and I know that you will enjoy this superb port of call and have a brilliant time there

  5. I have also received similar emails that should have been sent to someone else. Their booking info, itinerary etc were all included. What a breach of privacy! I've also had an email showing an unpaid balance, when another shows paid in full. Even phone agents were giving out conflicting info when I was transferred from agent to agent. Thank goodness the cruise was perfect or we would not be using Royal Caribbean again.

    For those taking cases of soda, it's a good idea to take a bag or container of some kind just in case. At some home ports, security will tear open the cases looking for alcohol. So much so that they're practically unusable after. So it helps to have something to carry the cans in just in case this happens. We take a reusable grocery bag just for this.

     

     

    What in the world does any of that have to do with taking soda on board? Or cruising in general, for that matter?

     

     

    Yeah, you can bring a 12-pack back on at your ports of call.

  7. We loved the Adventure of the Seas and are excited to be going back in March. Although there were not as many menu choices in the MDR each evening as Carnival offers, we were pleased with our dinners each e, except one. Mt husband ordered a "rare" steak, and was served a well done one. On the 3rd attempt, he was given a steak cooked just rare. We found the Windjammer to have a huge variety every day for breakfast and lunch. Any day that the Windjammer was really busy, a closed off section was opened so guests were able to find seats quickly and easily.

    The promenade was so different from anything we have seen on a ship before, and we loved it. The shops selling cruise attire and souvenirs didn't offer much for choices, but we enjoyed having an evening coffee and treat while sitting at the little restaurant in the promenade. 

    The cruise director, a fellow Canadian was a disappointment - we rarely saw him all week, and when he was on stage or hosting an evening event, he was not outgoing, relaxed and fun like the CDs we've had on other ships. It certainly didn't affect the great time we had onboard, and we can't wait till we cruise again.

  8. Thanks for the clarification. On RCL, we were able to make a reservation for YTD when we did our online check-in, and I misunderstood this to be the same. With it being a check in on the HUB app, it's still great and will save waiting in line during the busy times.
