  1. I spent my first cruise miserable with motion sickness. Even if you get a room that is midship and on a lower deck you can still feel the motion of the ship in places like the dinning room and the theater. (I've had to leave dinner early because of this.)

I can not stress how much taking two Bonine chewables at night and ginger capsules in the morning helps. I have not gotten sick once since. Take the Bonine the night before your cruise then every night after.

  2. A piece of advice, I wear heels but the tiled floor can be exceptionally slippery! I walk very carefully and try to walk on the carpet where possible!

This! The combo of slippery floors plus a dress terrifies me!

  3. Carnaval in Cozumel is essentially the same as Mardi Gras. They have all kinds of celebrations and parades throughout the time, just like we do in the States. I think this year is it is March 2nd. Cozumel Insider has a schedule of activities on their website.

    Thanks!

  4. If you can, come to New Orleans on Friday and take in all the big parades and activities over the weekend...when you board the Elation on Monday you will have been Mardi Gras out, and will enjoy the rest of your cruise

I'm from southern LA and we will be parading all the way up to the cruise. Hopefully we make it on board ;)

  5. We sailed the Elation during Mardi Gras in 2011 and were disappointed that there was nothing special going on during the cruise. No beads, no parades, no special shows. It was a short 4 day cruise to Cozumel. However, Cozumel was having it's main Carnival celebration and parade that evening. The streets were lined with the most colorful floats and the costumes of those riding the floats were amazing. We had hoped that MAYBE we could have stayed in port for a couple more hours to see the parade but that was not the case either. I have to say, we were expecting a little more excitement from that cruise but it was still a good cruise. Just nothing special during Mardi Gras. :(

Carnival in Cozumel? That sounds interesting. Do you remember what day this fell on?

  6. Hey guys,

Me and my family are cruising the Elation the week of Mardi Gras. Leaving on Lundi Gras day. Does Carnival do any thing special to celebrate Mardi Gras on the ship? Just wondering if we should bring along some beads and Mardi Gras attire and what to expect.

    Thanks!

  7. First, no flamed intended. I agree that one can outgrow or outdo a particular vacation type. I pefer to do land vacations and cruise as a extra treat. Being Caribbean, I do not like to cruise to the Caribbean, but it worked out my next cruise on Royal Princess will be to the Eastern Caribbean and my last on Carnival Magic was to Western caribbean. I will make the most of the ports. You picked the itinerary, as I did mine, so should be no complaints.

Reading you review I find it extremely judgemental, with words like 'YUCK', 'GROSS', 'Really'? so not what I consider good manners. As for the wearing of robes, it happens. I was at the Grand Hyatt Regency in Febraury and walked through the lobby to the spa in my robe. It's fabric and I was covered and thought better then wearing something that was loose and hanging. On a sailing on RCCL, I saw a huge family took a portarit in their robes, which I thought was cute and different. I get asked if it's formal night very often because I always wear a gown. I usually smile and reply, looking cruisefabulous! I see your nose so far up in the air, I am scared that if a few drops of water you could drown, because of words like yuck, geeze, who does that, yo sh%^$$t, Bugh, remarks. How much people eat and how they dress is really none of our business. Yes, I am fascinated by someone eating a pound of bacon compared to my half a pound.

MY QUESTION - For future vacations and to be 'proper' and not appear to be low class, I should take the robe over my arm, not wear it to the spa?

JMOP, your negatives are more of a judgement and indictment of PEOPLE, in all walks of life, than a vacation, you most likely should not have taken.

Agreed. I was started to feel bad for the bath robe people myself.

  8. Showed samples to my vegetarian daughter. The cruise is to celebrate her graduation. She wants me to check into changing to another line. Not very vegetarian friendly unless you want sides all the time or can eat mushrooms, which she nor I can.

I agree. The other menu had way more vegetarian options than this. Cruising in March with my vegetarian boyfriend. Really hope his first cruise isn't a big disappointment because he won't have many options as far as food.
