Be sure you ask for a refund, not the 120% credit. That starts the count-down clock AND SeaDream either immediately - or after a little time will - come back with a better offer.  Probably more like 150%.  Remember, they are cash starved so will bend over backwards to keep your money.

Why do you want to force a company out of business? The best thing for any tourism company is that everyone rebooks and not ask for refunds.  But of course everyone can do as they want. But for us that love to cruise it is important that we save the industry not cripple it

Helpful.  I seem to recall problems in the past when there was a voyage with paying guests right after a dry dock - perhaps they don’t want to repeat those?

I have done a crossing without ac for 10days... not plessant.  So if they sail empty to avoid stuff like that .. then they get my praise

The difference here is the TA is cancelled AFTER the supposed dry dock not before.  The reason Spring 2020 TA was cancelled was to prep the ship before the dry dock work.  Why cancel a TA after the work has been done, especially if as claimed the Caribbean schedule is unchanged?  Perhaps it is to finish the work in some fashion or allow any bugs to be fixed?  Seems a bit odd that dry dock with any extensive work would go forward when SD claimed there were so many refunds requested for future voyages they couldn’t process them on time.  Maybe SD finances are actually stronger?  Wish SD would speak up but I’m not going to wait for any official word.

There is plenty of work that can be done after the vessel leaves dock.  If they use the weeks in dock to the fullest they do not have to spend time cleaning in dock,  but can clean up and finish the small stuff when sailing empty

I enquired yesterday about the cancellation of the SDII crossing, specifically as to how this would impact the SDI & SDII Caribbean schedules.  I was told that SDII was going into dry dock for "a couple of weeks" and that the Caribbean schedules were unchanged.  I guess we shall see.

Remember that sd2 was supposed to go across empty and have dry dock this spring for renovations.  This was cxl due to Covid

Yeah... they are a small.  Just two 35-year old ships they bought back in 2001.

Be sure you read the more recent threads in that forum thoroughly before you send them any money.  They closed their USA office, canceled almost all voyages through September but don't update their website, laid off almost 90% of company, changed their payment terms and  haven't paid a refund since February, refuse all communication, etc.  So lots of unhappy customers left to wonder if they will be around much longer.

They have paid several refunds. They are paying 90 days after the cxl request per the New travel law in Europe. I have several people I know that have received their funds at 90 days.

The web site is updated, and they are sailing from June 20th in Norway

Exactly... At $1900, that's $270 per day for Deck two.  If you plus that up for Deck 3 & 4 & the Suites, and with 93 days on this schedule, the most they can hope to make is $3M.

But they'll be discounting the hell out of it to try to get passengers and having to give away cabins to any who had credits. Yet in their best years, their average occupancy was around 75% and these 12 day voyages will have an even lower daily rate.  So $2.5M is maybe the most realistic number? Then pull out operating cost of what, 60%?  Now you are down to $1.15M?

AND they now have to cancel the remaining Med through September. PLUS they have SD2 sitting idle, generating only cost, no income. THEN canceling the much needed drydock/refurbs to reposition both yachts back to the Caribbean only to have half the passengers waiving their 150% credits at them?

No matter how gracious you are with the math, there will be no where near enough to cover all the refund requests payable from February through September. Especially with the Miami office shut down, so no one selling or supporting new bookings or charters in their #1 market.  We can only hope the Owner is pumping money into SD until all the refunds bleed down so they can re-hire sales and refurb both yachts.

I called them today. It is only one voyage that start at 1900usd.  The 12 night sailings start at 3900USD per person. And goes up to 10000usd for the owner suite.

The first sailing from Bergen to Oslo is almost sold out according to my TA.  And it is open for sale for Danish as well.

And here I am in Germany, itching to travel.

Germany is on the shortlist to be allowed to Norway in July. They are starting the ferry from Oslo to Kiel June 1st but only for Norwegians.  They can not disembark in Kiel, but it is a start

  8. Travel agencies in Norway are blasting out stuff about these trips.

Ny agent sent me this photo.

The least expensive trip starts at 1900USD (19000NOK) per person for a week.

Norwegian Governments are hoping to open for the Nordic countries June 15. Maybe more of Europe July 20th.

The infections level here are good now,  max 100new cases the last two weeks. One death in 7 days now.

Sports are starting, schools are open.  Country almost back open

Yes, I am angry too.  And why not?  Obviously we loyal customers/passengers are being treated with undeserved disrespect by SD.  90 days refund is not ok.Changing terms AFTER THE FACT is not ok. Having to get your CC company involved to obtain your promised refund is not ok.

Though I love SD (This would have been our 13 trip.) I see our loyalty is not worth much to them only our $$. I would question anything they tell you now.

(Note that the only claim of " several of my friends" receiving refunds came from Oslo.  Just saying.)

Yes I am from Oslo. Yes I have been onboard 13 times and yes I will travel again.

I think it is important to take the credit not refund. We all can help save tourism

We are basically in the same "boat" 🙂 because we booked while on board in October.  That contract only states that if we cancel 120 or more out, then we get the deposit refunded, minus the $50/person booking fee.  I expected to lose the $100 for us. However, now it's THEM that cancelled the voyage, but more importantly, when I cancelled they said it would take up to 90 days. So we, too, will wait it out and then submit this info I copied below to the CC company as proof.  That's a good idea to save a copy from their site in case it is taken down.  I actually feel we may lose our deposit completely.  It's very disheartening.  I hope i'm wrong.

    April 22,2020

    Thank you for your email.

We are sad to hear that you wish to cancel your upcoming SeaDream reservation and have declined the offer presented to you, but understand under the circumstances.

We will proceed with your request to cancel your reservation and a notice has been sent to our Accounting Department.

We have been asked by the Local government to shut down our home office, so we have shifted our operations to our homes.  Due to the shutdown, we are working as quickly as we can to process your refund and we hope to have them out as soon as possible. Refunds may take up to 90 days as all refunds are processed manually.

You are able to view our Cancellation and Refund Policy here: https://seadream.com/payment-refund-policy/

We know there are better times ahead of us and we look forward to welcoming you both back on board in the near future.

Thank you for your patience as we navigate these unusual circumstances.

    Sincerely,

    Ashley

I do not understand why they are writing home office.

SeaDream head office is located in Norway,  not the us.

This is strange practice from them.

I understand everyone and what they are saying,  my point with my previoua post was to bring up their  terms and what the law was saying.

The Norwegian Government stated that it did not matter what previous  timeframe for refunds a copmpany might have, the New law cancels this old refund policy for all request.  Even if people were told 10-14 days.

Fingers crossed that everyone gets their money, all I am staying allow 90 days to go.  Several of my friends have got their funds back from SD when they were due 90 days after cxl

  11. their refund policy clearly States 90 days https://seadream.com/payment-refund-policy/

In regards to 90 days  this is in Line with the latest travel law and regulations both from The Eu and Norway. The New law in Norway was back dated giving travel companies up to 90 days to refund.  This was backdated to all cancellations/refund requests  from March.

This was implemented by the Government to support the tourism industry and avoid they all companies goes under.

SeaDream is a Norwegian company and are allowed to follow this law.

    Their t&c reads:

    • THIS PASSAGE CONTRACT SHALL BE GOVERNED BY AND CONSTRUED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NORWEGIAN LAW, EXCEPT FOR NORWEGIAN CHOICE OF LAW PRINCIPLES. IF THERE IS CONFLICT BETWEEN NORWEGIAN LAW AND A PROVISION OF THIS PASSAGE CONTRACT, THE CONTRACT PREVAILS.
    •
    • ANY CLAIM FOR EMOTIONAL OR BODILY INJURY, ILLNESS TO OR DEATH ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THIS CONTRACT MUST BE BROUGHT AT THE ASKER AND BAERUM DISTRICT COURT, NORWAY, TO THE EXCLUSION OF ANY OTHER COURT.

This can all be found here: https://seadream.com/about/policies-terms-conditions/

It is important to know that all tourism companies use money for cash flow when they get money.  No tourism company will just sit on the money they received for bookings.

I understand that people are frustrated,  but SeaDream is within their legal right to spend 90 days before refunding.

Importantly - the website says pausing MEDITERRANEAN operations until the end of August ... several sources including onboard and elsewhere in one of the CC SD topics report that efforts are underway for one or both ships to attempt operations out of Norway and elsewhere in Scandinavia this summer if local rules allow ... we shall see ... hope it works out.

True true. Good point in fact.  I think the rumours might be correct. Why move sd1 to Norway unless there was a good chance

  13. Web Cam Aalesund port

SeaDream I arrived to Aalesund this morning.

I called SeaDream Reservations and they advised that they are exploring the possibilities of sailing in Norway this summer if the Norwegian Government allow them to.

I guess this will be mainly for Norwegians first and then Europeans when Europe opens.

The way that the US government has treated this Virus I think it will be a while before US citizens are allowed to travel to Europe.

Rumor/intel suggests owner wants the assets closer to home.  Also attempting to use them for Norwegian cruises with Norwegians and others who can get there, which actually makes some sense given the dismal conditions in the Med.  Probably less expensive in Norway for docking, etc.  Supposition would be added wrinkle easier to get crew home from Norway than other places given SD is a Norwegian company with more connections and options there than elsewhere.

Norway has more expensive docking  and flights out of the country are really limited.  And if you check Marinetraffic Sd1 is going to Ålesund, this is not a major airport town.  And far from SD head office
