I was not "spreading fake news".  I was sharing what I heard, then asking what others might have heard.  Please excuse any impression to the contrary.

Anyway, here is story she was referencing: https://e24.no/naeringsliv/i/g7Aov9/brynestad-har-opplevd-upassende-motstand-fra-gaardeiere-etter-stenging

And here are some links regarding the published SD1&2 ports of call for the next 30 days (https://seadream.com/voyages/

    • Francehttps://www.gouvernement.fr/en/coronavirus-covid-19 -
      • International travel - The borders of the European space (the European Union, the Schengen Area and the United Kingdom) are shut until further notice.
      • Intra-EU travel - French citizens and nationals of the European Union, the Schengen Area and the United Kingdom are authorized, along with their spouse and children, to enter the national territory in order to travel to their homes. Please note that you will need a certificate to travel in France."
    • Spain, Italy & Greece - https://www.cruisecritic.com/news/5097/ -
      • Spain: "has closed its land, sea and air borders to non-residents -- originally for 30 days from March 23; now indefinitely."
      • Italy: "The entire country of Italy is in a government mandated lockdown that has been extended indefinitely. No cruises are permitted to visit.
      • Greece: "Bans are in place for all cruise ships and sailboats arriving into Greek ports. The port of Piraeus (Athens) is closed until at least June 1."

There is nothing in the e24  article saying that he is struggling with finances.  That one is all about how one of his other ventures were closed down due to covid

This venture is now open again

Based on what latest intel I could glean after reading the posts above, look for one or both ships to depart Lisbon soon and head home to Norway.

Why should they do that if France is opening up? Port costs are proably higher in Norway.

And that is far away if Europe opens up propper

Chatting with some of the skeleton and furloughed crew on FB, they confirm there are no plans to bring the rest of crew back in the next 2 months.  So they are as confused as the rest of us as to why the upcoming late May and June voyages haven't cancelled yet.  There is no way the yachts could staff up even if the ports were to open, and all  summer Med charters have already cancelled. They also confirmed there is no dry dock planned for the rest of the year.  Checking cruisemapper.com and sure enough both I and II are still both "wet docked" in Lisbon, so the above information would appear to be accurate.

Some other things she mentioned are that no refunds have been paid out since late February, that the entire global sales teams are gone and the club directors didn't get their Q1 payouts. The Miami office stopped paying rent and are locked out by landlord. And that the Owner's other businesses in Norway are getting what little cash flow they can scrape together. She even cited a news story (in Norwegian) that confirmed how grim their liquidity is. Also that there has been a huge spike in credit card companies refunding customers and charging back to SD.

All these  certainly explain why SD won't pay refunds, instead making crazy offers on future voyages that will never happen. Anyone else confirm any of these or heard anything else?

This is really strange because I am not able to locate any newspapers/sources that claim this. I live in Norway and there have been no news on Mr. Brynestad's liquidity.

And in regards to ports, if you read cruisemapper.com you would see that several French ports are opening, same with Norwegian ports.

    https://www.cruisemapper.com/news/7041-european-ports-beginning-to-open-giving-hope-recovery-amid-coronavirus-crisis

France has opened for travel from EU and Schengen without quarantine.

If you are out to spread fake news, make sure you can not be caught.

  4. Why would you not take a future cruise credit? Or roll over your deposit? If everyone want a refunds all tourism companies will go out of business.

And regarding 90 days, even big companies like NCL does 90 days or more for refunds.

A hotel, cruiseline or airline does not just keep funds on file when people book. Funds in is a part of cash flow.

I know SeaDream offered me to move my deposit and get a 20% saving on the new voyage when I asked to cancel, i felt that deal was to good to say no to. They even allow me to select a new sailing in 2022.

If we all want to sail again, why not keep our funds?

I have just placed a hold on a Caribbean itinerary in  April 2021 on SeaDream II to celebrate a milestone birthday.  I have been on Silversea and Seabourn as well as a private yacht charter.  SeaDream sounds right up our alley but I have just a few concerns.

    1) The condition of the yacht.  I've read often how "tired" and "beat up" both yachts are.  Can anyone clarify this for me?

    2) Areas to relax on various decks - are there enough chairs and loungers to accommodate everyone on board?  Is there the issue with shirts, books

and hats tossed on loungers and chairs to hold them only to never see a soul in any of them?  We spend a lot of time on board just relaxing so this

could be a huge deal breaker for me.

    3) Selections of spirits, wine & champagne - Even if it's an upcharge for a premium brand, are there multiple selections available?

Any and all additional input would be so much appreciated.

    Hi.

In regards to point 1: SeaDream II is going into drydock in April 2020 for refurbishment.

    2. No issue at all. It seems like it is more sun beds than people. Remember the Balinese beds on the top deck. There are also sun beds on the front of the top deck.

    3. Plenty of comp and upcharge selections. Last time i was onboard we never felt the need for buying additional spirits. We did buy the occational bottle of wine, but that was more because we wanted that brand. The comp wines are good and matched to that nights menu.

I'm onboard.  We were unable to tender due to high winds A couple of ships were closer to shore and tendering but with real difficulty. We're due into Athens around 7pm tonight instead of tomorrow morning

The CD and staff have done a great job coming up with a programme of events thro the day including a dinner excursion sorh Greek show in Athens tonight

Happy to hear that they are looking after you.

Was afraid something was wrong with Jewel 🙂

    Thank you for the update

If they stay exactly on the 10-week rotation, it will be Captain Trym.  However, the captains can mutually decide to vary the transition a week or so, therefore you may not know until you get onboard.

But the two listed in your post is both still on Jewel? So my chances of getting a fellow Norwegian are quite high 😉

I find it incredible that you managed to make it back to Athens but they would not let you continue with your cruise and instead you had to fly on to Rome. What reason did they give for this? I was under the misapprehension that if you catch up with a cruise after missing a port you could then continue on the cruise."

Some Greek ports does not allow you to leave with more or less guests than what you arrived with, unless it is embarkation or disembarkation day! If it is during a sailing they do not allow people to join in certain ports.

  9. Hi everyone.

Found the perfect itinerary for us on August 25th 2019 on Jewel. All places we have not been too, reasonable price and Balcony Stateroom.

Booked 9582, how is this compared to the regular Balcony staterooms? I like the position of the room, on the hump and it looks like it is in a quiet area.

Can not wait to go on RCCL again 🙂

  10. Thank you Hum. Me like that!

    Foodie? Yes, I ©AM.

Not young, not old. But can talk to everyone, social, outgoing, loves the good life.

    Never done luxury cruising before.

Have done Azamara, Celebrity, RCCL and carnival(not again, glad it was a 4 day).............................

Will spend days on the Yacht(I like calling it what it is, not going on a ship, going on a Yacht. ) Sounds much better.

Love to relax and enjoy life, but this soul needs him some activites as well.

Not the boring sitting on a bus to the beach, but zip line, high thrill stuff.

Jost is the beach party normaly here right?
