  1. As we were going back to our ship we stopped at The Beaver Gift Shop located on the pier. They had a wonderful selection of merchandise for last minute shopping. The reason I wanted to mention them is because of their great customer service. We had a major problem with one of our purchases and they took care of it totally to our satisfaction.

  2. I've been thinking on this, and if you're comfortable exchanging contact information, I'd be happy to take you to the beach while you're in Juneau. If it's a weekday, I work close to the cruise ship docks and it wouldn't be a problem for me to pop over and take you to a beach. After all, you only have 1 fifty year anniversary!

    Tee_harbor,

Thank you so much..what a wonderful offer. You have helped so much. We were going to take a bus tour out to Mendenhall, but now thinking about renting a car...if it's not to late.

  3. Beach4Me....Thank you......this is a very special trip for us. We are the type of travelers who can make lemonade out of lemons...so , short of an actual disaster ( God save us from that), we will have a wonderful time, no matter what! :D

  4. It took me a moment to understand what you were saying. I'd love to see the reaction if you told a bar full of fisherman that they don't sail in the ocean because their home port is Juneau! :D

In Juneau, if you happen to be docked at the AJ dock, you can walk along Thane Road away from Juneau for about half a mile and you'll have several pebbled beaches to stroll on. Or you can take the public bus to Douglas Island, and at the end of the route (just a few miles) is Sandy Beach, a lovely stretch of yellow sand that has several striking mining ruins and dock piles that are a popular photography spot.

Let me not be one to encourage anyone to break the law, but feel free to fill your pockets with shells and rocks. I get a fishing license to collect seaweed or sand for my garden, but I've never heard of a beachcomber being sited for picking up shells and pretty pebbles. However, I don't encourage people to take bald eagle feathers, even when they're just lying on the beach. That is a law which is enforced.

Thank you Cool Cruiser...your reply was exactly what I was lookin for.......NOT a criticism of my choice of excursions. Thank you.

And in anticipation of further criticism, I don't intend to fill my pockets with anything. We just want to walk on a beach in Alaska as part of our 50th anniversary trip.

  5. There are some very good reviews of it on TripAdvisor, as well as a firsthand report from a friend who went on it, loved it, and had wonderful pictures. That being said, I appreciate all your replies and input. :)

  6. This past April. we had the same situation. We used the day room option at the Rodeway Inn . I believe it was @ $60. They pick you up at the cruise terminal, take you to their hotel, where you have full use of a room and the facilities . We enjoyed it very much. When we were ready, they took us to the airport. There are no stores or eating places within walking distance. They do however, have a nice little store in the lobby, as well as a restaurant.

  7. This is ridiculous. Are people actually taking this seriously? You think a publicly traded corporation is going to make a major decision that will affect it's financial performance based on an online petition and the arguments might by a self declared well learned, yet wholely anonymous bunch of message board rats?

Seriously, move on to something more useful, like playing tic tac toe by yourself.

So, your opinion is that we should just suck it up and sit quietly? Is a petition and hopeful dialogue hurting you in any way? How about just not participating in this thread.

We got hooked on cruising when RCCL was here on the West Coast and have now passed diamond status, however we are now building up loyalty points with Princess, and are loving her. Princess has fantastic port lectures that are not just long commercials.

Would we prefer a RCCL ship....absolutely. But when I start seeing that I can cruise twice as much when I don't have to figure in airfare, hotels, complicated ground transportation, then other cruise lines are becoming more attractive.

I signed the petition today! :)

  8. We also have just returned from this sailing. The use of the

centrum for some really nice entertainment was my one big complaint. It seemed ridiculous to me, especially since both the Tropical and Safari theatres were vacant at the time. I love the Radiance class, but probably will not do it again if they continue using the centrum for big events.

  9. We are flying in from California. We don't arrive until 7, so I'm sure it will be 8 or after when we get to the Hampton. All we will be interested in is having a bite to eat and getting our wine for the cruise.

Our cruise is on the Serenade, April 8-18. We are 4 adults sharing a room.

After the cruise we have a late flight so we will try to figure out a way to get some sightseeing in then.
