Amy_girl Posted April 6, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2005 Does anyone know the best places to snorkel at in Cozumel?
CozSally Posted April 6, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 6, 2005 My first choice is Dzul Ha. No entry fee and the best snorkelling on the island. You'll be expected to consume something in food and/or beverage while you're there. Easy to do as snorkelling is "thirsty work"!
Cozumel_Tom Posted April 6, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 6, 2005 Dzul-Ha is the best shore snorkel in Coz, but if you want the best overall snorkel you should book a tour that takes you to Columbia and Palancar reefs...have fun!
cpayne Posted April 9, 2005 #4 Share Posted April 9, 2005 Any idea how far each of these are from the ship terminals? Thanks.
CozSally Posted April 11, 2005 #5 Share Posted April 11, 2005 There are 3 piers in Cozumel. Dzul Ha is about 2 miles from the International and Puerta Maya piers and about 6 miles from the Punta Langosta pier. The boat tours to the specific reefs Tom recommends leave from various locations. clownphish Posted April 17, 2005 #6 Share Posted April 17, 2005 We snorkeled at Dzul-Ha 2 days ago and had a so-so experience. Yes, the snorkeling and atmoshphere at the place were awesome. However, we had our 7YO daughter with us and after spending $40 to rent all the snorkel gear, vests, locker, etc. we figured out that the current was so strong that day that it was nearly impossible to go much more than 50 feet out. It was an overcast and windy day, but I wish the staff had had the courtesy to let us know that snorkeling with a small child might be difficult in such current. We tried for about an hour then ate some lunch and left. I would love to go back again on a calm day b/c we saw some huge gorgeous fish and sea fans and such very close to the shore, so I can only imagine what it would be like out on the reef. Just a warning, I guess, pay attention to the weather, and ask about the current before deciding to go in.
kj_cruiser Posted April 19, 2005 #7 Share Posted April 19, 2005 If we bring our own mask, fins, and snorkel, is there a charge to use the beach? I don't mind paying something for the facilities, but I'd like to know what it is up front. We set sail in two days!
CozSally Posted April 20, 2005 #8 Share Posted April 20, 2005 You can use your own gear, no problem. Just consume food and/or beverages while you're there. If you wish to use a palapa, there's a $15 minimum which is easy to do with a few beers and a plate of nachos.
