rakes5 Posted September 8, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2012 (edited) We wanted to book a boardwalk balcony, but really wanted a bed by the balcony. Everyone has their own opinion, but we have tried both, and prefer the extra room by the closet/bath. We asked our TA about the room configuration. She understood what we were asking, but didn't know how to find out. So she tried calling Royal. At first Royal couldn't help, so I started looking @ CC. I knew it would be here. Eventually Royal did get back, but I had already found the information here. I put this together using this thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1516781&referrerid=254101 You should use that thread if you have any further questions, as the CCers there are very helpful. There it was requested that I post this in its own thread. Using the rules stated in post 20 below. I put this picture together. The adjoining cabins are in gray. (On Floors 8, 9 and 14 rooms 323 and 325 are also adjoining, but not on floors 10, 11, & 12, so I didn't highlight, but they would still follow the guidelines.) Doing this small area using the below rules was easy. It gets more difficult when suites and corners are involved. Here is the short guide to rooms on the Oasis and Allure. BOTH ships have the same configurations. There may be a few exceptions to the following generality, but you will find this to be your best guideline….. All non-suite cabins were built as a pair of cabins. There is a common wall between the 2 cabins that zigzags between them, and that dictates the bedding arrangement for each of the 2 rooms. The cabin configurations alternate; every other one is the same. Likewise, every adjacent cabin is different. On the left-side cabin, the bed is adjacent to the bathroom. This is a cramped arrangement and should be avoided. There is inadequate access to the closet, and you must lift your luggage over the bed to enter the stateroom. The cabin looks and feels crowded. Two people will have trouble getting dressed if they both need access to the closet and bath. On the right-side cabin, the bed is adjacent to the balcony. This is the preferred arrangement for most people. While not spacious, the cabin looks and feels comfortable. You can tell which cabin is which by merely looking at the floor plan of the ship. Wherever you see adjoining cabins (shown by the arrows connecting 2 rooms), this is always ONE of the pair-of-cabins. When viewed from the hallway, there will be 2 entrance doors next to each other. One door is LEFT and one door is RIGHT. Always remember: RIGHT is RIGHT. Select the door to the cabin on the RIGHT. It does not matter if they are inside cabins, ocean-view cabins, ocean-view balconies, Central Park balconies, Boardwalk balconies: RIGHT is RIGHT, when viewed from the hallway. Once you find a adjoining cabin pair, merely count by two’s up or down the floor plan. This will show you each and every pair-of-cabins. Again, when viewed from the hallway, if you want a bed by the bath, select the left door. If you want the bed by the balcony, select the right door. MrCruzeaddict Posted September 8, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 8, 2012 We were on the Allure last year in a Boardwalk Balcony on the port side. The bed was near the balcony door. It was the same on our Oasis Central Park balcony a couple of years ago. it MIGHT depend on which side of the ship that you are on..We have always been on the port side. We will be on the Oasis next week :D in another Boardwalk Balcony on Deck 8 portside too. We have friends that will be across the ship on Starboard. I will check it out for you! Joe<-----Oasis next week! :D
Rare Familygoboston Posted September 9, 2012 #3 Share Posted September 9, 2012 Thanks Rakes5 this looks great! I'm sure that if anyone sails in a cabin that for some reason doesn't match the info here they will post it as an exception. But everything Ive read and from photos and reviews, the diagram seems to match the actual configurations. It will be a big help when planning! catr13 Posted September 9, 2012 #4 Share Posted September 9, 2012 Aww cool thanks for the heads up. Looks like I am in a cabin with a bed by the balcony so I am haopy with that going by if it gives you more room!!!

MomtoCCC Posted October 28, 2012 #6 Share Posted October 28, 2012 Looks like I ended up with one near the closet (10303). However, if you notice, most of the cabins for more than 2 people have the bed by the closet. Seems strange that they would have that configuration for more than 2 people when it will be more crowded. I checked to see if I could change and there aren't any available with bed by the balcony. Is it really that crowded? Guess I will go see if I can find a picture.

Buckeyefan1985 Posted October 29, 2012 #18 Share Posted October 29, 2012 Thanks for the response. I guess we will just have to make do with the bed placement.:)
CP3o Posted October 30, 2012 #19 Share Posted October 30, 2012 Do any of the BW triples toward the aft have bed by the balcony? 8327, 8729, 9327, 9729, 10327, 10729 Thanks.
LROB2433 Posted October 30, 2012 #20 Share Posted October 30, 2012 Looks like I got the bed by the closet and I am in an adjoining room both of which I am not happy about I heard you can hear everything through those doors. Not bad if my family was in that room but they are on the other side (not connected by adjoining door). :(
CP3o Posted October 31, 2012 #21 Share Posted October 31, 2012 Do any of the BW triples toward the aft have bed by the balcony? 8327, 8729, 9327, 9729, 10327, 10729 Thanks. If the way you do this is face the set of joining doors, whether facing a BW balcony or and Ocean balcony, looking at the doors, the one on the right has the bed by the balcony. Count by two's down to the room you want. Is that it? If I have it figured right, none of the triple cabins have a bed by the balcony. I would think a cabin sleeping 3 is exactly where you would want the best use of space. Is there some reason you can have a regular couch by the balcony but not a sofabed? We have 10303 booked for 3 of us. It won't be the best setup for us with our dd but we will have to make do. If prices drop for ocean balcony, I might try to change with one with bed by the balcony. I also wonder why they did it this way???
CP3o Posted October 31, 2012 #23 Share Posted October 31, 2012 Is there some reason you can have a regular couch by the balcony but not a sofabed? I mean regular sofa by the bathroom but not a sofabed. For some reason, if I understand it right, all triples on BW have the bed by the bathroom. I guess, from MomtoCCC, maybe oceanview triples can have bed by balcony so I'll have to look at that.
Tranquil Waters Posted October 31, 2012 #24 Share Posted October 31, 2012 Just an alternate point of view here. I prefer the bed by the closet! At least on the Solstice Class which also has alternating cabin arrangements. so unless Oasis Class has some design issue of its own...... Yes, if you are a big person getting in the closet might be an issue. But for a normal size person, prefer to have my "living space" by the balcony. I can put on my makeup at the desk, dry my hair etc. as I look out at the ocean. I can sit on the sofa and enjoy the view. I only need in the closet for a brief moment once or twice a day. I can use the living area by the balcony more than that.....
Sunny AZ Girl Posted December 26, 2012 #25 Share Posted December 26, 2012 I would love to see the same chart for the bed placement on Deck 8 - OV balcony rooms, specifically 8196. I think I would prefer the bed by the closet as I really do like to sit on the sofa and watch the ocean go by.
