kaykels Posted August 9, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 9, 2009 I am coming from Bucks County, Pa. and I'm thinking about taking the train. If I take the train into NYC, what is the best way to get to the pier from there? Cab? Car service? I have 7 people in my family plus luggage. We are sailing on the Carnival Dream over Thanksgiving. Thanks for your help.
138east Posted August 9, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 9, 2009 Which pier are you going to? Manhattan or Brooklyn? For the Manhattan pier I would imagine that a cab would be best. Can your group of 7 manage their luggage up to the cab stand? If not, speak to the conductor on your train and ask him how to get a red cap to come to the platform. He may be able to call ahead and have one waiting for you. Are you familiar with Penn Station NY? You can take the escalator to the main waiting room for NJ Transit and Amtrak. Then you follow the signs for the cabs, which drive in between the NJ Transit/Amtrak and LIRR stations on the street level between 8th and 7th Avenues. However, it seems to me every time I am there the station is a zoo and hard to navigate with luggage.

The lines usually move quickly and this is the easiest way to get a cab. The Carnival Dream sails out of the New York Cruise Ship Terminal on 12 avenue and 50th street. For a family of seven you will need to take two cabs. It's about a ten minute ride to the pier from Penn Station, it should cost around $8.
