We're contemplating a cruise that puts us in St. Thomas on Tues, Nov 19 (2013) 8am-5pm. We'd looking for a day trip for to Jost Van Dyke so we can hang at the Soggy Dollar bar for awhile and relax. Anybody know of any good boat charters or day trips going then? I'm guessing we'd need to be back by 4pm at the dock (West Indian Dock).

Dolphin Shuttle is an option, because you are in St. Thomas on a cruise with limited time and not a land vacation, you'll have to charter;

Great Harbor $290 / $80pp each additional passenger

fares do not include $35pp Customs fees, current fuel surcharges, and a 5% VI tax.

There are a few options. The only tour that goes there regularly is Bad Kitty from St John. You can book a private charter with one of dozens of charter boats here on the island. They will pick you up somewhere on the East End and then plan a day with you.

Realistically, you will have about 3 hours on Jost. You charter will start around 9 and it's about 45 minutes to Jost by boat. Then clearing customs in Great Harbour will take about 20 mins. So you'll be drinking with Mic by 11. On the way back you'll need to leave by 230 to get to US Customs in St John by 315. That takes about 10 mins and then 20 mins back to the dock in STT.

We do this as a day trip all the time but we have our own boat. It's a great day. We were there yesterday!

If you would like a charter recommendation:

Capt Scott Browning with Rock On Charters is fantastic. He's got a nice 30 foot Sea Ray that's comfortable and fast.

Susie unfortunately the only real option you have being there on such a short cruise stop is to hire a private charter as AZ said. There are several listed on vinow dot com, and there are a few in Sapphire Marina that are excellent. You would want to be back to the East End by 3:30 and allow for customs in Cruz Bay of course.

Since you're still in the planning stages there is another option if you find an earlier arrival time. If you were there at 7AM you could enjoy the Daydreamer which departs from the Sugar Bay Resort at 8AM. That's just past Red Hook and Sapphire Beach. She makes a snorkle stop off STJ, then spends the day in both Great Harbor (Foxy's) and then in White Bay (Ivan's Stress Free Bar, Seddy's One Love - Foxy's son, and the Soggy $ Bar).

Or better yet, find a cruise with a stop in the BVI. If you're docked in Tortola long enough you can ferry from West End, water taxi from Cane Garden Bay, or take the ship excursion right from Road Town for the easiest transfer. And of course Windstar and others dock right at Great Harbor overnight.

Good luck! :)
