ILuvCruisin' Posted August 27, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 27, 2011 We had some tweens (7 and 9 year olds) and some teens (17 and 18 year olds) in our group of 18....below are the reviews their parents wrote...I thought I would put them in a separate thread so those of you needing the info could find it easier...please see my full review here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1465640&page=4 From the Teens (17 and 18) Dad: This was the first time cruising with my two teenaged daughters. I thought they would become bored after just a few days (seven days is a long time for teens) but on the contrary. The cruise had just the opposite affect. They were entertained with a wide selection of activities and events which kept them occupied throughout the excursion. They felt perfectly safe exploring and roaming the ship without me by their side (they needed their own space and time without dear old dad). This was great as it allowed me to venture out on my own to enjoy the adult entertainment throughout the ship. I was really pleased with how tight the security was in regards to ship departure and embarking. My youngest daughter of seventeen was not allowed to leave the ship without being accompanied by myself or another designated supervising adult of my choosing. This was also very reassuring. I was able to relax, enjoy and have a great time and would recommend to any single parent traveling with teens to prepare for great family/single time! From the Tweens (7 and 9) Mom: During the day there are activities for various age groups and they will receive a Compass that lists all of these activities. Adventure Ocean during day time is free. The evening fee is $6/hr per child and starts at 10pm. It closes at 2am or earlier if all kids are gone. I don't think that ever happened. That room was full at 1:30am when I picked the girls up every night! Parents should include an Adventure Ocean budget on their SeaPass! I know I am for now on! Well, well worth it! lol! My Girls loved it !!!!! Would tell folks to really READ all the info services that AO offers before cruising. I shouldve utilized the expedited dining more. On my Survey at the end of the cruise I did mention the time should start at 11pm for after hrs rather than 10pm as most shows let out after...I wrote this suggestion on the survey for the last cruise and this cruise. Didn't think about the sibling discount until yesterday or even just a few days where they offer "specials" for siblings. Like the drink specials. AO sibling specials. 25% off on Tues/ Thurs. Would be nice for discount for siblings for after hours. Thats a single mom talking! LOL! Something to help us out! lol! One night when I went to pick up my girls before the 2:00 am time they begged me to come back later to pick them up but they insisted that I go get them pizza (at Cafe Promenade Deck 5) and bring it back to them right away. True Cruisers!!! I was shocked my 7 yr old wanted to do the FlowRider, but she is a daredevil!!!! I was happy she could and enjoyed it. She was just tall enough. They have expedited dining for AO. You let your waiter know and you arrange for AO to pick the kids up from your dining room. They get served quicker and the AO person then takes them right to AO. I didn't have to take them if I didn't want. But, I liked them hanging around and getting to mingle with everyone at dinner. During the day we are so scarce and at night, they had their own agenda!! LOL!!
ILuvCruisin' Posted August 28, 2011 Author #2 Share Posted August 28, 2011 While the Teens enjoyed the shows with us in the evenings and of course got their beauty rest during the day the Tweens enjoyed the H2O Zone during the day. The question is are we really on a Cruise Ship?

ILuvCruisin' Posted September 1, 2011 Author #15 Share Posted September 1, 2011 Ok folks, I see a lot of people are reviewing this thread but we're not getting any responses. Is anyone getting anything helpful from this thread or is it time to close this one out?
hubofhockey Posted September 1, 2011 #16 Share Posted September 1, 2011 Can you close your own thread? In any case, we are going to try out the Allure in 2013. Looks like the ship has something for everyone. I love my kids. But I hope they stay busy on their own (they'll be 15 & 13) and they'll have their own cabin accross from ours. It's exactly one of the reasons we picked the Allure. ;) By the way, thank you for your review and perspective.
ILuvCruisin' Posted September 1, 2011 Author #17 Share Posted September 1, 2011 Can you close your own thread? Hi Ljberkow: sorry perhaps poor choice of words... Should have probably said are there any questions or should I just stop posting:rolleyes: In any case, we are going to try out the Allure in 2013. Looks like the ship has something for everyone. No need to worry, unless your kids just want to hang with you, there's plenty to keep them active and amused..., what type of things do they usually look forward to when they have free time? Are they adventurous? Do they like to read? Play video/arcade games? You are welcome and thank you for taking time to read it and to add a post. I enjoy writing reviews but no since wasting my time if info is not useful to someone.
nenner1 Posted September 1, 2011 #18 Share Posted September 1, 2011 Ok folks' date=' I see a lot of people are reviewing this thread but we're not getting any responses. Is anyone getting anything helpful from this thread or is it time to close this one out?[/quote'] Not yet!! ;) I have a question! That Dreamworks Welcome Aboard gathering in the Promenade you show pictures of above- is that part of the parade or a separate get together? If it is something totally separate from the parade, is it in the Compass? Do you recall the time it was held? Thanks so much for your reviews, we found both threads interesting and helpful!!:)

They might bring their skates. We'll see. They like hanging out in the kids and teen clubs too. We're hoping that we can relax while they are off doing their thing. It will be different for us with four sea days and three port days. On our Med cruise this summer, we had seven port days, embarcation day, and only one day at sea. LOL....thx so much for stopping by and for posting today you get a gold star... The Promenade gathering of the Dreamworks Characters was suppose to be our Sailaway Party on the Pool Deck but the rain forced us inside :o...sad bout the rain, especially during sailaway, but like I told my friends we had 3 more Sailaways to look forward to...(Nassau, St Thomas and St Martin) this change and the way it was handled by RCCL is one of the reasons I love cruising...the Captain and the CD have always made up for the weather and anything else that gets in your way while cruising...they have choices and they use them...the change was announced several times by the CD... it wasn't a normal, Reggae band playing, dancing on the deck kinda Sailaway Party but it was still fun...It was held right after the Muster Drill so it was maybe 5:15 or so... thx again for stopping in and for reading both threads... ILuvCruisin' Posted September 5, 2011 Author #24 Share Posted September 5, 2011 Hard Rock Resort and Casino is a great place to go pre or post cruise...not so much for the casino (with kids) but because there is so much to see there...it's like a music museum...they also have an outdoor area that is similar to Universal City Walk that has entertainment, stores, a movie theater and plenty of good places to eat
