RocketmanRon Posted July 8, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 8, 2018 I'm thinking of driving the 180 miles from my home in Scotland to sale with Fred. Olsen from Newcastle. How easy is it to get to the dock and what is the parking like? I was thinking of leaving home about 10:00 am.
nb125 Posted July 8, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 8, 2018 We always park through Fred. You drive right up to the terminal, offload your luggage and they take the car away, couldn't be easier.
Malch_uk Posted July 8, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 8, 2018 At Port of Tyne you drive into the car park as directed by staff on the gate and park where shown. The porters then take your luggage and you lock your car and keep the keys before making your way to the terminal to check in. Book through Fred as it's cheaper than booking direct. The port is easy to find and well signposted from the A19, just before it goes under the Tyne Tunnel to the South.
jokskot Posted July 9, 2018 #4 Share Posted July 9, 2018 If you're a miser like me you will be able to find parking through Park at my House and probably arrange for the person with whom you leave the car to deliver you to the terminal and if you phone, once you know the disembarkation time, they would collect you. RocketmanRon Posted July 16, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted July 16, 2018 (edited) If you're a miser like me you will be able to find parking through Park at my House and probably arrange for the person with whom you leave the car to deliver you to the terminal and if you phone, once you know the disembarkation time, they would collect you. I've not found anywhere suitable in Newcastle with Park at my House. Edited July 16, 2018 by RocketmanRon
jokskot Posted July 17, 2018 #6 Share Posted July 17, 2018 Did you search for "North Shield Terminal" in Park at my House (now called JustPark)? There seem to be lots of choices. J
Alvaliz Posted July 25, 2018 #7 Share Posted July 25, 2018 We drive down regularly to North Shields as my son stays there. Allow about 4 hours from Stirling area, good stop for coffee at Morrisons at Berwick on Tweed. Watch the cost of parking at the terminal, think it is very high. You might be better going down the night before and staying at the Premier Inn at Royal Quays next to the terminal, cheap overnight room and free parking included
RocketmanRon Posted July 25, 2018 Author #8 Share Posted July 25, 2018 Watch the cost of parking at the terminal, think it is very high£9.50 per day. How far is it from the terminal for a couple with limited mobility but still able to walk for 15 minutes before their hips start to protest? Do you just book the room for the night before and leave your car for the 10 days until you come back? Is the car park secure?
marc62 Posted July 26, 2018 #9 Share Posted July 26, 2018 Just booked myself, they asked if a blue badge holder which would suggest some bays very close. It is secure
Northern Boy Posted July 26, 2018 #10 Share Posted July 26, 2018 Premier Inn will let you park for just a donation for charity but car park is not secure, just an open car park for the hotel and shopping park. Cruise terminal is secure and you are close to terminal but is £9:50 a day. Sent from my iPad using Forums
RocketmanRon Posted July 26, 2018 Author #11 Share Posted July 26, 2018 Just booked myself, they asked if a blue badge holder which would suggest some bays very close. It is secure So 10 days parking for the £30 cost of a room?
marc62 Posted July 27, 2018 #12 Share Posted July 27, 2018 IT is £9.50 per night so £95 for ten nights
RocketmanRon Posted July 27, 2018 Author #13 Share Posted July 27, 2018 marc62 I think you are confused, I am posting about seemingly paying £30 for a room at Premier Inn and parking for 10 days. I wouldn't even need to stay in the room if I booked it for the day I sail, just check in then go on my cruise. That's if I understand this properly. Northern Boy Posted July 27, 2018 #14 Share Posted July 27, 2018 Just be aware that parking at the hotel is insecure and open to the general public 24 hours a day. The choice and risk is yours. Sent from my iPad using Forums
tiggertom Posted July 29, 2018 #15 Share Posted July 29, 2018 So 10 days parking for the £30 cost of a room? It’s £78 for the room, so I would rather park in the secure car park, costs more but I would rather have the peace of mind. And in any case when you fork out £000s for a cruise, it seems penny pinching to not make sure your car is secure.
RocketmanRon Posted July 30, 2018 Author #16 Share Posted July 30, 2018 It’s £78 for the room, I was quoted £30 to book a non refundable room for the Thursday night before my cruise.
