I like reading long reviews, but I am such a poor writer, that I can even begin to duplicate some of the great written reviews I’ve readhere. So I will just make quick comments of the trip on the Carnival Glory thatleft Miami on July 7th. Also, once again, thanks for the info beforethe trip. I appreciate the comments even though I asked for help about 16 hoursbefore the cruise.

I usually have faster to the fun, so I am not sure what the benefitis for having the sail and sign card in the mailbox. Im sure someone canenlighten me. We flew into Fort Lauderdale around 9a and we were in Miamiaround 1030a. Our shuttle was about a 30 minute ride and was $30 round trip. Wesaved about $80 per ticket flying from Atlanta to Fort Lauderdale instead offlying straight to Miami. I had the 1130a as the check in time. I expected tomaybe be on the ship by 1230, but I think we were walking on by 1145a. Othershad check in times of 1230 and 1p and still got on at the same time, so I guessI don’t really need to sweat figuring out when I want to check in in thefuture.

I didn’t want to buy anything since I didn’t have my card. Couldhave used my boarding pass, but I didn’t really want to do that.

Was at the cabin (8298) around 122p and our S&S card wasin the mailbox. 15 minutes later, my bag showed up. I don’t really feel like I’mon vacation until all bags show up. Well, around 330p it was time for thesafety briefing and still my wife’s bag wasn’t at our cabin. Safety briefing waspretty bad. I hate complaining, but it seemed really poorly run. We were thereon the deck for about 30 minutes. Many elderly had to move inside. We were toldthat an unacceptable amount of people were un accounted for. I work in a heavilyregulated industry, and totally understand the requirement, I just hated to seeso many older people sweat and drop t their knees. I hope a better way can be thoughtof to do the safety briefing. Not sure why Ive been on ships where it wasacceptable to do the briefing inside.

Our cabin steward was very nice, as they usually are. Butthis is the first time in 6 cruises where the cabin steward didn’t know my nameand never called me by name all cruise. Ive always been amazed by the stewardsthat knew my name and my wife’s without ever being introduced. She was veryvery friendly (Yanti) and was very stealth when it came to cleaning the room.Id leave for 20 minutes and she and her crew would swoop in and before I knewit, the room was cleaned with no sign of Yanti.

Anyway, back to the safety briefing, we left the briefing, and obviously there was a huge crowd around the elevator, so my wife and I tookthe stairs. After hoofing and puffing to the 8th deck…..what isthat? Wha?? By cabin 8268 is my wife’s bag. OK. Well, I’m not happy that it wasdelivered to the wrong room, but I’m glad we have our bags, now the vacationcan begin.

Brittney was our cruise director and did a very nice job.The Glory is an odd ship for me. This is the first ship where I couldn’t walkfrom front to back without a problem. For those familiar with the Glory, the 3rdand 4th decks have dining rooms in the middle and aft of the ship. The lobby (3rd deck) ‘glass’ elevators are in the front of the ship.In order to get the back, you need to either go to the 2nd deck or 5thgo past the middle elevators in order to get to the back of the 3rdor 4th decks. I’m sure I’m not giving the description of the Gloryjustice. Maybe taking a quick look at the deck plan would help aid what I amsaying. Or trying to say.

There seemed to be a lot of heat in the hall ways, but therooms stayed cool the entire trip. The food was good, but Id have to give theLobster Rolls a ‘C’. You get 2 rolls for$12 but the ones I had were a bit light on the filling (Lobster) and thereddint seem to be much flavor. The shrimp was good, but maybe a little too muchbreading on the shrimp. Oysters..ok and the clams were decent as well. GuysBurgers was always a big hit, and a hidden gum in my opinion is the Taco /Burrito stand. Breakfast and lunch is outstanding. MDR was great and the Ports( Grand Turk, San Juan, St Thomas and Amber Cove ) had plenty to do. Amber Covewas probably my least favorite, but there is enough to keep your attention. Ifthere is one thing Id like to have better knowledge of are the places at theports where they already tack on a 15% gratuity. I loved the food atMargaritaville in Grand Turk. Great time. But make sure you watch your bill. Also,a place ( forget the name) in Amber Cove..there was a charges for grutty, orsomething like that. That was gratuity and it was already added in. So you canadd if you like, but no need to tip another 20%. Unless you wanted to tip 35%in the first place.

One thing that was pretty new to me was that winning triviadid not get me a new ship on a stick!! I got a medal…and 4 medals got you aship on a stick? Whatypeofshytisdis?? LOL…that was a new one, but oh well. The Rock show was good, the Lip Sync Battle isbecoming a favorite and I watched more movies than usual. Even won a couplehundred bucks in the casino! Had a great time , and just got back home. I willtry to add more info if I can find a way to efficiently upload it.

I was on the ship with you and I agree about the Muster Drill. This is my 9th cruise and it was by far the worst drill ever. Super long and it was super hot. Had a family behind me and their 2 year old was not handling it well. Poor little guy. A family could not find their 11 year old son and that was part of the hold up. They came by and scanned everyones cards. Not sure what they could do differently but it as awful. Our room steward did not call us by name either but I still gave an extra tip. Although that was the first time not being called by name. We love the Glory and had a great trip.

Hey there. Glad you could READ the post. I typed it up on an android word software app and cut it out to paste it on this site. Looks like many words ran together. Sorry.

Yeah, the muster drill was the worse I've seen but I'm sure the crew was doing their best. You seem familiar with the ship. It was my first on this type, and it took me a day and a half to navigate around with confidence.

Going out n this cruise in Jan. Can you share what you did in each port? We are really up with n the air.

Sure. Sort of quickly this is what we did.

Grand Turk - a little shopping and then to Margaritaville. A little shopping there and then sat to eat. Really enjoyed the meal. Fish tacos and seafood chowder to share. Walked around and walked the beach and metvsonr folks.

San Juan - walked the streets to Diamond International and shopped for some t shirts and shot glasses in town. Looked for some native type food on food trucks, but didn't want anything fried. Walked to Senor Frogs and had blacked chicken. Along with a couple of LIT Long Island Iced Teas.

St Thomas - lifed up to Paradise Point and the view is really beautiful. Shopped and had GREAT fish bites. Outstanding. Did a little more shopping and then back on the ship.

Amber Cove - walked off to the right and shopped and ate. Didn't enjoy the food as much. Shrimp scampi type dish and drab turnove4s , like crab Rangoon without cream cheese.

As you see, we didn't have many excursions this trip. We spent 2 to 3 hours out and about and then enjoyed the empty ship - whirlpools, trivia, movies-

One other thing. In Grand Turn 3 card poker table game and video poker was allowed at port.

At Amber Cove There was a 25 dollar blackjack table going at port. Sort of surprising. Just though this mention it.

Hope that helps

We were on the Glory in April, 2017 and our muster drill was awful too. Stood outside for about 45 minutes, after the drill started a half hour late. It was very frustrating. Someone would broadcast a message that we all needed to be quiet, as the drill would be starting soon...so everyone was quiet...minutes passed and the drill did not start...everyone started talking again...then someone would broadcast a message that we all needed to be quiet...and around and around we went! We were supposed to sail at 4, but didn't get underway until after 5 which bothered me a bit as it was my husband's first cruise and I wanted to be able to stay on deck for sail away and longer but we had to get ready for dinner...guess we should have opted for the buffet. Turned out to be a fantastic cruise...we are now eagerly waiting for our May, 2019 cruise on the Conquest.

  • 2 weeks later...

We had a similarly long drill on the Carnival Triumph in March. My children were smothering with all the adults close around them, yet we couldn't hold them for the 40+ minutes it took. I hope Carnival will do something about this in the future...as I dread doing this in September when we cruise the Glory.

Boarding the Glory Saturday, learned a lesson in the spring on the same ship...don't show up early, you'll be pressed to the back wall by people who wait until 4:30 to show up to a 4pm muster. I'll be dragging in with the stragglers.

That is true. Showing up for the the safety drill early would have made matters worse for us. I hope the drill gets better. The cruise was enjoyable, actually the worse part was finding my luggage at someone else's door! It's hard for me to get comfortable until my belongings are in hand.

Good review, thanks for the tip on going from front to back. Triumph only had a few decks that went from front to back as well, it took me a day to figure out those decks. We are going to Glory next year when it comes to NO, until then I'm reading all the reviews that I can find on the ship.
