USNA 72 Posted September 19, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2017 We are planning a trip to Australia in March 2019. The trip will include a circumnavigation cruise and either a pre or post cruise land visit. Besides the GBR what other locations offer good snorkeling? wagtail_syd Posted September 19, 2017 #2 Share Posted September 19, 2017 Clovelly Beach in Sydney is nice for snorkelling. I'ts not the GBR but is a fun day out and easy to get to one public transport. The water should be nice and warm in March. I've only snorkelled on the GBR twice but both times I've been really disappointed. It must depend on where they take you but the spots we went to one day trips were so damaged it was heartbreaking. I've heard WA also has some great spots. If you are staying in Perth you could check out Rottnest Island. Or visit Ningaloo reef.
Charles Mason Posted September 20, 2017 #3 Share Posted September 20, 2017 Ningaloo Reef in WA is certainly quite good -and they also have whale sharks to swim with (although March might be a tad early in the year). For something different, Abrolhos islands about 70 kilometres off the coast of Western Australia has good snorkelling (ship wrecks and Coral) but you need to do a short three or four day cruise.. This video makes it look great:
