With Uber it all depends on their demand based pricing. So check when you’re there.

From what I have found, even with the demand pricing, I've never seen it be as expensive as the cabs in Anchorage.

Thanks -- I was quoted $17 - $22 by Uber, and see an estimate of $22.50 (including tip) for taxi. I'm just wondering which service is better to use in Anchorage, as far as availability, wait times, etc.

Wait times are pretty quick downtown for both. The cabs are always so grimey and old in Anchorage. All the ubers I've been in have been a lot cleaner.

We did use Uber (for the first time!) and it worked well. We had a great driver! The fare was around $18.50.
