Japan departure tax payment

Is the Japan departure tax included in the ticket price back to U.S.? Is it due at airline check-in in cash in Japanese yen?

Up to this point, there is no payment required upon departing Japan. All fees are included in the ticket price.

There is some pending legislation that may change that system sometime later this year.

If you are required to pay a departure tax in future, it will be ¥1,000. That's less than US$10.
