krmnc Posted December 16, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 16, 2017 Planning a cruise in August on the Celebrity Solstice. On our last cruise in Europe we planned all but one of our excursions through independent companies with 8 person vans and had great experiences. The only Celebrity excursion we went on was a bus of approximately 50 passengers and was much less organized, and with a group that large, you can only move as quickly as the slowest person in the group, so not quite as enjoyable. I'm wondering, though, if on the Alaskan cruise the excursions will be that much different whether scheduled through Celebrity or an independent company, since most of the Celebrity ones indicate that they're run through outside, verified companies...are they the same excursions that we would be planning on our own? Advise and experience are appreciated. Thanks.
Rare Keith1010 Posted December 17, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 17, 2017 It will be similar to those in Europe. Everywhere the cruise line uses local operators/local tour guides. Once in a while someone giving you the tour is one who also does this privately. There wil be some excursions involving lots of people on buses but certain ones will be ones with far fewer people. With good planning you can do many on your own or though your roll call board. Keith
