Hello Preston,

I am so sorry that the original thread has come to a close, but I sincerely hope that you will stay on with this one since you offer so much to so many that rely on you for so much information AND mostly most of all, your sense of humor would be missed especially by me.

Good luck and I know that this one will exceed the old thread.

Always

your friend

Shirley

OK I need to really bring each and all up to speed if you are returning a car back in here at Cape Canaveral.

I did some checking today and if you do NOT fill your gas tank before turning it in, you will be charged $6.999 a gal so save yourself a little bit of monies by stopping at one of the gas stations before you turn it back in.

Just food for though or should I say just gas for though ;-)

Closest Hotels to Port Canaveral

All below 3 Cape Canaveral hotels are about 2 miles from the port and offer rooms with a view of the port, where you will be able to see the cruise ships in the morning. Be sure and sign up for the port shuttles. None of these 3 hotels are on the beach nor is it within walking distance of the beach (5 min cab ride). If you want the beach close, look for a hotel in Cocoa Beach – beachfront hotels are posted further down.

Radisson

Website: http://www.radisson.com/capecanaveralfl

Beginning July 9 2007 Radisson will officially offer free transportation for guests – the Area will be the Port, Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach, Merritt Square Mall and free transportation (to and from) and highly discounted tickets to Kennedy Space Center.

Free cruise parking with an overnight stay

Breakfast buffet for $9.95, some higher rates include breakfast

Radisson webcam (points to the port):

http://www.radissonport.com/CruiseShips.htm

ROOM INFORMATION PER REQUEST

None of the rooms will give you an ocean view since they are several blocks from the ocean. The standard rooms are only 2 stories. the suite buildings are 3 stories. For standard rooms and either the 200 or 400 building for suites. The 200 building is closer to the pool although the pool area may get quite noisy so if you want a quiet area request courtyard view. The most favorite rooms are in the 800 building 2nd floor facing the pool. Be aware that most of the pool side rooms are king rooms. There are just a few rooms with 2 beds facing the pool.

Due to the construction of high rise condo's, there are very few rooms that will give you small views of the ships unfortunalty none have a wide open view of the port any more.

Can I walk to the port from my hotel?

Where can I buy gas for my rental car/food /snacks/alcohol /toiletries I forgot to pack?

About a mile past the entrance to the port (right next door to Residence Inn and Country Inns and Suites) is a big Racetrak mini mart/gas station for beer and probably some wine plus other supplies as water, sodas, snacks etc. Most stores that sell only beer and wine and are allowed to sell between 7 am to 2 am except most places on Sunday don’t start until 12PM. Racetrak has a very friendly staff members and have been known to help many number of lost guests find themselves on the right road.

They also now have beach supplies such as sunglasses, sun lotion etc and working toward getting more supplies on hand.

Hello to all,

I just wanted again thanks Preston and others that made it possible to put together all the above information to make choices easier for everyone - I do not endorse any of the places or businesses that have been put on the list. It is just to give you a little more insight especially if you are traveling here for the first time.

Thanks again to all

Always

Shirley

PS forgot to add the link to the old thread in case you need to refer back to it at any time>

Preston -

I cannot believe you are bailing on me with less than a month to go until my cruise!. It's so unfair, I was hoping to meet you when I got down there.

On the other hand, if moving to rolling hills away from warm weather and surf is the best thing for you, then go for it.

It's sad to see the old thread closed, but perhaps this one will be easier for newbies to find the things they need rather than not asking or searching.

Preston and Shirley, thank you both to your tremendous contribution to so many cruises and vacations.

Hey there everyone-

I found the other thread to be helpful.......

Trying to talk my Hubby into renting a car in PC-I would like to take the kids to the Brevard Zoo and then maybe to the Jetty Park to play-I know they have a playground. Kids are 2 1/2 and 4 1/2, got to get some energy burnt up- :O)

Hope it warms up soon-sailing in 9 days-woo hoo

Amazing information on here, thank you so much, already cleared up some major issues I was having!!!

Quick question: Does anyone know how far it is from Thrifty to the Dock that the Dream would be at? (If that's possible...I don't really know how this stuff works! lol)

Anyway, I saw someone say that the best idea would be to drop the family/luggage off at the dock, then bring the car back and take the rent a car shuttle. Just wondering how long my family would be wondering around on the dock for! lol

I am very sad that the other thread was closed down and I am really really hoping that Preston will come back - the information that was included here will change from time to time for places come and go and since it can not be edited to update the information, at least you have some head's up as to what is going on, The information could NOT have been done without Preston and I can NOt keep up what he was doing so with the capacity of being able to use BOTH of the threads, just maybe folks will find all their answers.

Thanks for the kindness

Hey there everyone-

I found the other thread to be helpful.......

Trying to talk my Hubby into renting a car in PC-I would like to take the kids to the Brevard Zoo and then maybe to the Jetty Park to play-I know they have a playground. Kids are 2 1/2 and 4 1/2, got to get some energy burnt up- :O)

Hope it warms up soon-sailing in 9 days-woo hoo

Debbie

good choices and YEP WE ARE OUT OF THE DEE[ FREEZE - broke all Florida weather records with the freeze we had - it was so unusual to go to work but had to get all the ice off the car first- don't know how folks do it up North, but I can tell you this, sure do respect all of those that have that experience every day of their lives in the winters etc.

Just wondering how long my family would be wondering around on the dock for! lol

L8r,

As Preston would say, I believe, stay together and the port is about 2 miles from Thrifty.

You can refer back to the old thread and go to search or maybe someone will post that info OR go to the above information site and read it all the way through for there are maps, chamber of commerce information, Port Canaveral information and will answer ALL of your questions -

Boy oh boy Preston,,,a little cold weather in Cocoa Beach and you are "Heading for the Hills":p:p

Sure gonna miss you and your wit on the boards. I got a chance to meet Shirley last time I cruised outta Canaveral in 09, was hoping to catch you on my next sail. As always, thanks for all the help you've given over the years, and best of luck to you in your new endeavors. You and Shirley made this guy feel like a local whenever I was in Cocoa Beach!!

I posted this same question as it's own thread a few minutes ago... but then thought maybe someone in this thread might know the answer and help me!

I used Priceline last year and was very pleased with the pre-cruise hotel I got in Tampa. I would like to use Priceline again for our Port Canaveral cruise in April but am unsure WHAT HOTELS are available through Priceline. I currently have the Radisson booked, but will cancel is I chose to go the Priceline route instead.

When I go to "Name Your Own Price", it gives me 5 areas to chose from. Can anyone tell me if I should chose "Cape Canaveral"?

Cape Canaveral, Cocoa Beach are all thisclose to everything - the car rentals are about 3 miles or less --starting down from Hertz, Budget, Thrifty/Dollar, Avis, Enterprise - if all would research the old "I work in Port Canaveral" plus the new information that was listed, all answers can be reached.

Thanks

Shirley

We are 3 families 13 total people - would you just rent seperate cars to take you from the Orlando air port to the Radisson then return the car at the port canaveral the next day - even thou we really won't be using the car for the night.

Or would you do some kinda shuttle service just to the Radisson since they have shuttle service to the port the next day? We don't have to all go in the same vehicle.

Thanks!!

I don't know what you are looking for in a hotel but I recently bid on my first hotel on priceline. I bid on cape canaveral, 2.5 stars, $49. I ""won" the country inn and suites. I was very happy with the results.

Hope this helps

I felt I just had to post a response to this thread. This is an example of how the cruise critic board used to be and am thrilled to see this particular thread revived! Thanks once again to Preston and Shirley for all the help throughout the years!:D
