Anyone else going on this cruise. Trying to start a Roll Call, but not sure if there is one somewhere else.

My wife and I will be on this cruise. We live in New York and liked the idea of having to take one less flight to go on a cruise.

 

First time on Silversea for us . We have enjoyed cruises on Regent and felt this would be a different experience.

This will be the first time on Silverseas for us also. Maybe this will be the start of a thread for this cruise.

We will have to fly Louisiana to NY and then Barbados to home.

My wife Jan will be along this time. She didn't go to Antarctica.

One hour drive to the pier for us. We have sailed from NYC a few times and the ride down the Hudson is beautiful. It will still be light that time of the year and the sail past Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty is something you will not forget. Last year we did a New England- Canada cruise from NY on Oct 17 . Not great sea conditions when we left the inner harbor but that is to be expected at that time of the year.

My husband Jack and I {Sharon} will be sailing on the Whisper on October 14,2010. It is our second time with Silversea and we are looking forward to it. Have also sailed with Reagent which was great. This my first post and I would like to join the roll call.

We now have the start of a nice little group.

 

I have been on about 40 cruises but this will be my first time on a Silverseas ship and I have heard nothing but good things. I hope it all works out. My favorite ships have been the Millennium class ships in the aft corner cabins.

We also enjoyed the Millennium class ships especially the special restaurant that had an extra charge. On our last cruise on the Constellation we felt that the food had slipped in the regular restaurants and the wine and drink prices were out of hand. We felt liked there was an extra charge for everything. it soured us on Celebrity.

 

We decided to just sail on the all inclusive and smaller ships.

We loved our three Regent cruises and hope that Silversea turns out to be as enjoyable.

A friend e-mailed me and said that the Silver Whisper would be docking at St.George Bermuda rather than Hamilton. I was looking for some confirmation of this change. Anyone know? I really don't know the difference since I have never been to Bermuda.

Not much chatter here.

We have a reservation to stay at the Novotel Hotel on 226 West 52nd St. for two nights before the cruise. Last time we stayed here we flew out of Newark. We will be coming into Kennedy. Anyone know of suggestions for transportation from Kennedy to the Novotel Hotel other than a cab, or is a cab the best?

Anyone know how far this hotel would be from the port of departure of the cruise?

If I read the Bermuda cruise ship docking schedule correctly, your ship arrives in St.George's on a Saturday and departs on Sunday. I looked at the Ferry Schedule and it shows Ferry from Hamilton to Dockyard on Sat and Sunday but no ferry from Dockyard to St. George and reverse on Sat or Sunday.

I guess the person that responded to my question on the Bermuda board knows what he was talking about.

Looks like this may be the reason the ship changed the itinerary so we would get to St.George which may be a nicer visit than Hamilton. It would have been a chore to get to St.George. It seems that one could rent a car and driver or take a tour or the long bus ride if they wanted to go to Hamilton. Apprently one can't rent a car in Bermuda or even drive a relative's car.

St George looks nice to us. No Bus rides or car tours for my wife and I. It sounds like a nice small town to stroll and have an afternoon cocktail. With the odds good at that time of the year that we will hit choppy seas on the way to Bermuda , a relaxing day might be the way to go.

I think I read somewhere on someone's report that there is a St. George's Trolley tour that one can purchase.

There is a Bermuda train company that really is not a train that offers tours in Hamilton and The Dockyards but nothing in St George.

Read this about the Venetian Society. I would be delighted to be someone's friend if they are a member and can qualify for bringing me on board. Of course restrictions will probably prevent the person from getting the OBC since I am already booked and paid. HA!

I didn't have much to do while at work so I condensed some information. I use the tours to see where to tell the taxi to take us for sightseeing.

CLOTHING SUGGESTIONS

Shipboard attire ranges from casual to formal. Casual resort wear is appropriate for daytime aboard ship or ashore, and consists of standard sports outfits as worn at resorts. Shoes should be flat or low-heeled for deck activities. Evening attire falls into three categories: casual, informal and formal. On casual evenings, open neck shirts, slacks and sports outfits are appropriate. On informal evenings, ladies usually wear dresses or trousersuits; gentlemen wear jackets (tie optional). Appropriate formal evening wear for ladies is an evening gown or cocktail dress; gentlemen wear tuxedos, dinner jackets or dark suits. On formal nights, guests dining in La Terrazza may wear casually elegant attire (dresses or trousersuits for ladies; jacket, tie optional for gentlemen). Following dinner, all guests are free to take advantage of any or all of our public spaces for both entertainment or cocktails and after-dinner drinks.

Sailings of eight days or less typically feature two formal nights, whilst longer voyages usually have three or four formal nights. Details will be provided in the Port and Shore Excursion booklet in your final cruise documents.

CREDIT CARDS AND CURRENCY

Any and all onboard payments to Silversea shall be made in U.S. dollars. All charges for services provided and products purchased onboard the ship must be paid for by cash, cheque or credit card (VISA,® MasterCard,® Discover,® American Express®, Diners Club® or JCB) at the end of each voyage segment and before your final disembarkation from the ship. A 2% transaction fee will be charged for all cash advances.

 

ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES

You will find 110– and 220-volt electric currents on each ship. A hair dryer is provided at the dressing table in each suite. It is recommended that you carry an international adaptor.

LUGGAGE

You may bring aboard the ship a reasonable amount of clothing and personal effects without charge. Luggage for Silversea guests, or guests on land programmes, must be handled in accordance with regulations and tariffs of airlines and/or ground operators. MINORS AND CHILDREN

Minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult over the age of 21. Silversea cannot accommodate infants under one year of age and reserves the right to limit the number of children under three years of age.

PETS

We cannot accommodate pets on any Silversea cruise.

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS / IMMUNIZATIONS

All travel documents (air and cruise tickets, passport, medical card, inoculation verification) are the guest’s responsibility. It is also the guest’s responsibility to obtain any necessary visas and public health documents for all applicable ports and to comply with all customs requirements. Without the required documents, a guest may be denied boarding, and Silversea will not be liable for such denial or bear any financial responsibility. Most countries require passports to be valid six months beyond intended stay. Please check with the appropriate consulate for specific requirements.

 

Security measures imposed by governments may change from time to time and each guest will be required to comply with them. We will endeavor to provide each guest with notice of measures which may affect them, but complying with any such requirements is the responsibility of each guest. Please consult your travel agent for advice on such requirements to avoid loss of boarding privileges.

VALUABLES

Your suite is equipped with a personal safe. Silversea is not responsible for any articles such as money, jewellery, cameras, binoculars, documents or any other items which you retain in your personal control or in your suite.

WAITLIST

Should the cruise of your choice be unavailable, you may ensure a position on a waitlist for that cruise by making a deposit of USD $250 or equivalent per guest, which will be applied toward your cruise deposit requirement and/or final payment should a suite become available. If you choose not to reserve a suite that becomes available, or should no suite become available, your deposit will be refunded.

BON VOYAGE PARTIES / VISITORS ON BOARD

Please have your travel agent contact Silversea’s Special Services Department if you would like to make arrangements for a Bon Voyage Party and/or to have visitors board the vessel at your embarkation port. Requests must be made in writing no later than 14 days prior to departure. For security reasons, visitors for embarkation day must be pre-registered with Silversea. For visitors during the cruise other than embarkation day, guests can make arrangements on board. Silversea may limit the number of visitors permitted on board and this policy is subject to change without notification.

BUSINESS SERVICES

Telefax reception is complimentary; ship-to-shore phone calls and fax transmissions are available at an additional charge. A black and white laser printer is available for printing in the Internet Point at no additional charge ======

E-MAIL / INTERNET ACCESS

Your personal e-mail and internet may be accessed at the Internet Café on board, offering state-of-the-art computers with enhanced 17-inch flat screen monitors. Charges apply, with package rates available, and are subject to change without notice. You may also use your own laptop to access the internet and e-mail using wireless internet (Wi-Fi).

NEW! Increased Access

Hours of Operation

• The Internet Café opens after 2pm on embarkation day, remains open 24 hours a day throughout the cruise, and closes at 11pm on the last night of the cruise.

• Internet support will be available during posted hours

• Guests who have purchased an Internet Time Plan and have minutes remaining can continue to login to the systems until minutes are depleted or until disembarking.

4 Time Plans Available

Minutes will be calculated from the moment a guest logs on to the computer. It doesn't matter if they are on Word, Excel, Solitaire, Internet or email they are being charged by the minute.

• Time Plan # 1: 1000 minutes for $250 ($0.25 per minute), time plan can be used anytime throughout the cruise.

• Time Plan # 2: 250 minutes for $85 ($0.34 per minute), time plan can be used anytime throughout the cruise.

• Time Plan # 3: 100 minutes for $45 ($0.45 per minute), time plan can be used anytime throughout the Cruise.

• Basic Rate: $0.50 per minute (pay as you go)

Please note that most of our onboard technologies utilise satellite equipment. As such, there may be temporary outages of any satellite-connected shoreside service, including Internet connections, cell phones, in-suite phones, and TV Broadcast channels.

Additionally, some services may be blocked, non-functional or restricted when used via the satellite connection due to bandwidth requirements.

GRATUITIES

All gratuities aboard ship are included in your cruise fare; none are expected.

LAUNDRY / VALET SERVICES

Prior to your departure date, we will provide you with a list of port addresses where mail can be delivered to you throughout the cruise. Postage and mailing services are available on board ship.

MEDICAL SERVICES

Each of our vessels is equipped with a Medical Centre which is customarily staffed by a doctor and nurse on 24-hour call when at sea. When docked, supplementary emergency care may also be obtained through local medical facilities. Guests may be charged for medical services and for medications used for their medical treatment. The Medical Centre is not intended or designed to provide ongoing treatment of pre-existing conditions or for extended critical care, and Silversea Cruises Ltd. is not responsible for the diagnosis, treatment or services furnished by shipboard medical personnel. Guests requiring oxygen for medical reasons are welcome to bring an oxygen concentrator on board. Guests wishing to bring their own portable oxygen tanks must obtain prior written authorisation from Silversea, as restrictions may apply.

RELIGIOUS SERVICES

Non-denominational services are held aboard ship on Sundays. During select holidays, Catholic, Protestant and/or Jewish clergy will be on board, when possible.

SHIP-TO-SHORE COMMUNICATIONS

Your ship is equipped with a telephone system that allows you to make direct-dial phone calls from your suite while at sea. Calls will be billed to your credit card (including toll-free calls). Please consult the ship’s Reception Desk for the current rate, which, at time of printing, is USD $9.50 per minute. You’ll find the ship’s e-mail service a very reasonably priced alternative to phoning. Should someone wish to reach you while you are at sea, they should refer to the Leave Behind Information provided in your final cruise documents.

Wireless Voice & Data Service

Enjoy seamless and convenient access to family, friends and business associates. Use your own cellular phone, laptop computer and wireless PDA whilst at sea, connecting to voice and data services through your own "home" carrier. Charges will appear on your regular wireless service billing statement. To ensure the comfort of all guests, Quiet Zones (areas without reception) include the restaurants, spa, library and other public lounges. Service will be available fleetwide as of February 16, 2007.

SMOKING

At Silversea, the comfort and enjoyment of our guests is paramount. We recognise that some of our guests smoke and others do not. Most areas on our ships are non-smoking. However, in order to promote an onboard atmosphere that satisfies all guests, there are designated smoking tables in some bars and lounges and in certain areas on open decks for cigarette smoking. Cigar and pipe smoking is only permitted in The Humidor aboard the Prince Albert II, open Decks 9 and 10 aboard Silver Shadow and Silver Whisper, and open Deck 9 aboard Silver Cloud and Silver Wind. Silversea kindly requests that all of our guests observe the non-smoking areas. These requests are made to provide a comfortable atmosphere for everyone onboard.

 

 

SPECIAL OCCASIONS AT SEA

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary, honeymoon or other special occasion during your cruise, we will be happy to celebrate the event with you. Please have your travel agent advise us of such occasions at least four weeks prior to departure. Notification should be sent to Silversea’s Special Services Department.

Am I reading it right that for a Private Car all day tour in San Juan it is $1499 per person. WOW!

I remember paying $800/person for a dog sled tour on a Glacier out of Juneau once and thought that was way overpriced.

I hope everyone knows that there is a free bus service that takes you all around Old Town in San Juan and you can go to either or both forts. The bus drivers speak enough English to help you. All the local people use these busses to get around old town. You maybe able to download the routes from the Internet and maybe the bus stops also, not sure. My last visit to San Juan was April of 2009. One time one bus driver told us to get off his bus and get on the one across the street to go where we wanted to go. He waved at that bus driver and told him to wait for us which he did. Very hospitable.

I may have misunderstood, but I believe that is the rate for the car.
