IVaSong Posted September 1, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 1, 2009 Are there any Vaccinations needed if you will be cruising the Panama Canal and different port along the way in Mexico, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Guatemala. Specific ports are Carbo San Lucas, Acapulco, Huatulco, Puerto Chiapas, Puerto Caldera, Corinto, Purto Quetzal and Mazatlan. ?
Putterdude Posted September 1, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 1, 2009 The short answer is, no. However we consulted 2 travel clinics one being SIL's and both recommended Hep A, typhoid, tetanus and diphtheria which we decided to get and have now got the Hep A booster shot. You really don't need them for a cruise but having said that I would recommend that you consult with your health care professional as no one on these boards knows your underlieing health issues that may dictate that you should have them.:)

Our doctors says it will be part of the annual flu shot this year for Canadians. Stay away from ice or salad bars on the islands and you will be ok. No need for a hep shot. happy sailing Claudette

Richard in Panama Posted September 2, 2009 #5 Share Posted September 2, 2009 None, other than those that would be helpful wherever you live in N America. If you are on a ship tour and a meal is provided it will usually be fine. On your own use the same caution you'd use in any foreign country. I've met people who have had all kinds of totally unnecessary shots . . . however profitable to whoever gave them the shots . . . even malaria pills to go through the Canal.
