Is Central South Beach area convenient to the port?

I found a 4-star condo on hotwire for $56 a night or a 3 star condo for $39 a night, both in the central south beach area. It doesn't tell me much other than it is in easy walking distance to the beach. Interestingly, the 4 star does not have a pool, but the 3-star does.

This would be for next June. We need one night pre cruise, and 3 nights post cruise. It doesn't have to be the same hotel/condo both times, although the post cruise should ideally have a pool in case the beach turns out to be pretty far. Here's the description of the area:

"Upscale area known for an eclectic mix of boutiques, clubs and dining."

Any opinions? Should I wait until the time gets closer to see if I can snag something a little nicer?
