Where is the Straw Market located in reference to the

(1) - Sensation Pier

(2) - British Colonial Hilton

1)about 100 yards to the right when you are docked.

2)about 200 feet to the left of the BCH... (it is the big white tent you can't miss from the deck.....)

Thanks for the information. I figure if I get one of the conveyances to take me off the pier, I should be able to walk the rest of the way. Or maybe I can convince them to take me a little further than the end of the pier and go to the Straw Market! Hey, I just remembered, I might be renting an electric scooter for the cruise so then I wouldn't have to worry about whether I can walk the distance or not.

If you have trouble walking you will want transportation to the end of the pier and likely some kind of transportation through the terminal and to the market. Just so you are aware if you plan on using a scooter the isles in the Straw Market are very narrow and congested and it gets very warm in there. The earlier you go after the market opens the better. Not that you couldn't use a scooter but it will be very slow going as it can be difficult to move with just people walking on both sides of the narrow isles. We enjoyed the experience of the Market but its not for everyone if they don't like crowds or aggresive vendors. Be prepared to say no thank you and keep moving while the vendors are still talking and attempting to get you to purchase their things. If you have a scooter than you could continue to the next street behind the market and wander around the stores there that have much more room to navigate if you wished. Enjoy Nassau !:)

Thanks for the heads up! I never thought about the crowds in the Straw Market.

I know how difficult it can be to get through large crowds after being at DisneyWorld and these people eventually move.

I can imagine what it would be like to try to get through when everyone is standing in one place for some time.

Are the crowds just as bad later in the day towards evening (or doesn't the Straw Market stay open late)?

Seriously, at the straw market in most isles there really is just enough room for two people to walk going opposite directions and then they are still bumping into each other if not careful! Some isles are a bit wider and easier to navigate but not by a whole lot. If enough people are attempting to shop there it can make crowds at Disney World seem like a breeze:D Just don't forget your patience and hope others have taken theirs and it can be fun!:) You can exit the front of the market from most isles and can also exit the back of the market at the center so if you need a break from the crowd take a break for a few minutes from either side although if you have walked there really is no place to comfortably sit on either side outside. Maybe there were a few seats at the back??? But not many. There is a bathroom at the back of the market if you should be in need. We sat on the breakwall in the front of the market waiting for our DD and SIL to come out people watching and that was interesting;) Fun to watch the woman having fun and the men hoping their wifes would hurry up and be done!!:D

People that are going on excursions tend to do their excursions first and then shop at the market on their way back to the ship so depending on how many ships in port and when they arrived midday seems to be the worst. We weren't by the market in late afternoon as by then we'd walked to Arawark Cay and then taken a taxi to the Cable Beach area and didn't return until around 9 p.m. so I don't know what it was like late afternoon but I do suspect better than midday. I think I had read before we went that many vendors tend to leave around 5 but some are still there after that. Do plan on bargaining as they all expect that you will and never expect that you will pay their first asking price but if you do all the better for them!;)

Just double checking, is it close from dock area to walk to british colonial? Stay awhile, go back to ship to have lunch? Then can you talk a ferry to atlantis to visit inside of hotel area?

Yes, it's a close walk from the dock to the British Colonial. Out the door of the terminal and turn to your right and follow the side walk.

You can take the ferry to Atlantis to walk around the free areas after lunch if you wish.

I didn't answer before since I can't confirm, but before we visited Nassau last Oct I had researched and was told that most of the vendors went home by around 6 pm. We visited the market around 2 p.m. for about an hour. Everyone should experience the straw market at least once;):)

Our ship left Nassau at 10 pm too. Late afternoon we walked to the Araway Cay and enjoyed some local seafood and visited with the locals and then took a taxi to Cable Beach to the Wyndam resort where we walked around and then visited the casino for a short while. Took a taxi back to the ship around 8:30 pm. Went to get some pizza and enjoyed the hot tub on Verandah deck before going back to our cabin to get ready for the deck party that night.
