time change again?

Hey, remind me again about the ship time/island time thing? Is that JUST in St Maarten or in St Thomas too? And does that mean if it's 3:00 pm on the ISLAND, it's 2:00 pm on the boat? Cannot remember for the life of me.

Also, anybody hear anything more about Tropical Storm Ericka? The last cruise I read couldn't stop at St Maarten and switched to Grand Turk..I really hope that doesn't happen, that's my only excursion!

Am taking Mom on her first cruise and hoping to get to St John via ferry and Lord Sheffield excursion in St Maarten. Speaking of which, Lord Sheffield promptly returned my email saying they had plenty of room for that day (now hearing about Ericka I know why!) but no other instructions. I emailed again asking if they wanted a credit card or if we should just show up and I haven't heard. Any experienced Lord Sheffield people with advice?

Well, we leave day after tomorrow and am now (finally) super excited!

Thanks all!

Puerto Rico, The US Virgin Islands and the island of St. Martin are in the Atlantic time zone which is one zone ahead of the Eastern time zone. However, the islands do not observe daylight saving time. So this means when DST is in effect the islands are on the same time as Florida. (Atlantic Standard time = Eastern Daylight time)

If your cruise is before November when daylight saving time ends, ship time and port time will be the same. If you cruise after the time change the ship will be one hour behind the islands unless the ship changes time.

Oh wow--I never knew this!! Good info to have so you aren't sitting on the beach as the ship pulls away. Do they tell you this when you board??

It's your responsibility to wear a watch that is set on SHIP's time. Don't depend upon clocks ashore. You will stay on ships time ALL the time. There are a few exceptions and those exceptions will be noted - in huge print - all over the Capers and by shipboard announcements.

Tropical storm Ericka no longer exists. However, there is a hurricane Fred, but NHS forecasts it to move north and is not a threat to any land mass. I have done the Lord Sheffield, and I handled everything thru their website. If you pay for the tour up front, it is fully refundable if the ship fails to make it's scheduled port call in St Maarten.

Thanks all! I just did a reservation on the internet, it went thru St Martin Day Trips and I'm sure I'm not going to get the reservation in the mail by the time I go but hopefully they have my name and no problems just going there!

PHEW about Tropical Storm Ericka!

Thanks again!
