Do you decorate your balcony?

Recommended Posts

We haven't done it, but I have read posts where people mention that they decorate their balcony.

So, what do you use and how to do you 'attach' everything? Also, do you take it down while in port when they clean the balconies?

I've never done it but saw 3 that were decked out with palm trees (paper) and other tropical decorations on our last cruise. It was cute. Our room steward never cleaned our balcony so I don't think that would be an issue.

I have also heard about people decorating their balcony's for holidays too...

I have decorated our balcony, I use the wire garland and wrap it around the rail of the balcony. Last cruise I used some fun tack to attach small pinwheels to the rail also. They lasted the whole trip. I use plastic items that will be ok when they hose down the balconies.
I know some people use duct tape or cable ties to attach items to the balcony also.
It makes it fun to spot "your" balcony from shore when you are coming back to the ship.

I toss an inflatable pool and tie a couple of fishing poles to ours. So far, I've only lost one fishing pole when I accidentally snagged a whale while cruising the inside passage of Alaska. It did cause the ship to list just a bit as the super glue I was using almost held as well as they said it would. And of course there was that ugly incident with the people making whoppy on the balcony below at the exact moment I decided to empty the pool. I swear I never thought a man could reach those high notes that the all boys Christmas choirs do. I'm still not clear if his scream was caused by the cold water hitting his back or the small surprise that was left in the pool by the infant that had used it earlier in the day. On a serious note, maybe next trip we'll bring something to decorate our balcony with. Perhaps a KU flag? I think I'd only put it out on days in port and mostly as a way to locate our cabin. I can't say that I've seen anyone on our two cruises decorate their cabins. It sounds like a fun idea so long as it's no bother to RCI.

I used wired garland on our last cruise for Valentine's Day and wrapped it around the railing. Didn't realize how many of the little foil hearts would come off and end up stuck to the balcony floor. If anyone finds them on deck 9 aft, they're mine!

Decorated our first balcony after reading about it on this board. I also used the wire garland and LOTS of the little stars flew off and onto the floor of both ours and the next balcony. I noticed it when the room steward was out there wiping them off the floor. I was embarrassed and immediately removed it and used it in the stateroom instead. It seemed like a cute idea at first but I failed to consider effects of wind, etc. We have decorated the inside stateroom and balcony doors and the kids liked that too.

Sounds like a lot of work just to recognize your cabin from shore... LOL. Its a vacation... I'd rather relax Plus it's so much more to pack.

My decoration.... I hang my wet swim suit from snap hools on the glass door.

We had an aft balcony on a Panama Canal Cruise. We took a Texas flag and attached it when we were in port. We could see it from port. We attached it with three long shoestrings (through the gromets in the flag and round the balcony handrail).

We went in December. Another cabin below us decorated their balcony with plastic green garland and lights. It stayed on the entire cruise with no problems (14 night cruise).

This was on Celebrity.

I didn't really decorate the railing of the balcony but I did bring window cling decorations and put them on the balcony doors. When the sun was shining threw them, it looked like stained glass.

We usually hang the laundry from our balcony so it's easy to identify when we are off the ship. The local townspeople people usually complain about the poor scenery....

Single dad here...When my son (now 16, taller than me) left the room during our last cruise on the Vision in December, I pulled out a couple of battery operated X-mas trees, strung lights all over the cabin (ceiling, walls) and also on the balcony) With garland all over the place.

When he returned he tried to be macho about it all, but the look on his face was priceless...and the cabin steward was great about it...

Lot's of good memories

Hey, thanks to this great website, I just got another idea for our first cruise.
I think the patio lanterns idea sounds great, except for packing and bringing them.
So far I like the flag idea, and hanging it when we're in port. I will look for a flag the same size as our balcony.
COOL !! (thanks guys)

We leave our Ohio State flag out the whole cruise. We attach it to the inside of the plexiglass below the railing with duck tape. Never had a problem and it stays put cruising or in port. Fun to be able to identify your cabin when you're off the ship.

And people have started to get into the act on the Atrium Promenade rooms too (Voyager Class). I proudly put a large "Class of 2004" banner in my Atrium window to celebrate my degree. It could easily be seen from below. And I've also seen some folks pile their towels animals behind the loveseat so they all stare out at the crowd down below (Royal Promenade).

There's plenty of window space below the couch level to display stuff and not disturb the view.

Banners, pennants, and flags have all been sighted too
