Does anyone know how crowded the airport will be on a Sunday morning? We have an 11:30 flight that I'm starting to worry about making!

Yes, the airport is very busy on a Sunday am, as all the people on your ship and the others in port that day.

Make the cruise line aware that you have a flight before noon and they usually try to get you off the ship early that day.

Use the valet option and you will have your boarding passes and your luggage will be taken to the airport. Grab a cab and you should be at the airport by 9:30, plenty of time to make your flight.

When you leave San Juan, do you have to go through customs to re-enter the states? Also if you use the valet service, do you have to retrieve the suitcases and go through customs or do you not see them until your final destination? Thanks.

You will go through customs before you leave the terminal at the pier. At the airport, your baggage goes through screening for agricultural products.

 

I've not done the valet service but most lines have an Express/Walk off Service where you don't put your bags out the night before. You actually wheel them off yourself and are some of the first to disembark. I know on Princess, the form to do this has to be completed and turned in mid-week.
