It's close between just jeans and neither, but not between the combo's of either jeans/shorts and neither. Except for the few that feel good about wearing either on formal night:p I think most polled agree with one or the other, but not neither..

Interesting results so far... From the remarks I had gotten on the dining attire thread I assumed it would be 90% for neither and 10% for jeans or shorts or both. Nice to see that the loudest are not always the most...:)

It's actually not close at all when it comes to shorts, with more than 80% of the respondents voting NO for shorts. The "anything goes" crowd would have you believe shorts for dinner in the MDR are becoming the norm because society in general is so much more casual, but this poll as well as others done earlier clearly show that most cruisers (at least those on CC) still believe that shorts are not appropriate for dinner in the MDR. As far as jeans go, I don't even bother packing them when I go on a cruise. Why anyone would want to pack and wear denim on a cruise (especially a Caribbean cruise) when there are so many lighter and cooler fabrics, is illogical to me.

The problem is RCI. They need to get off their butts and define, clearly in black and white, what is and/or is not acceptable. Then ENFORCE that decision. Heck, they didn't have any trouble with writing policy when they eliminated perks for diamonds. And they sure know how to enforce the fuel supplement charges. How hard can it be?

Evidently RCCL does not seem to have a problem with it.........what part of that doesn't anyone understand:confused: You may have a problem with it........Joe Blow might have a problem with it.....Suzy Silly might have a problem with it............but RCCL does not......

But that is the issue here........I could say why would anyone want to pack a tux when it is soo warm in the Caribbean:confused:......but I understand that is what they prefer to wear........

Or alot of people (including me) didn't vote because we don't think it is an issue;)

Make up your mind. Is there an issue or not?

But on a poll like this, if you wanted to lump everything against neither, then that should have been a choice. Since it is written as it is, each category has to stand alone.

Also very interesting, the 2 top vote getters have been back & forth and remained very close throughout the polling. I don't remember ever seeing that before. Hmmmmm?

Regarding the dress code on RCCL:confused: No issue......

Regarding why Eaglerock can't understand why others dress the way they do.....that is an issue......an issue that should be addressed if it really bothers them I might add........

I'm a jeans and tshirt girl. at home and on vacation. many of those vacations do not take place in the Caribbean.

I don't understand the people that say "you'll spend all of your time in your bathing suit" because I sure don't. That would be uncomfortable for me. But jeans are very comfortable in the chilly dining room, the casino, on deck at night, horseback riding ...

I've never understood the capris trend. don't like the style, would never wear em, seem like highwaters or old navy uniform pants. Not for me!

when it comes to clothing, everyone has their own style and preference.

Are you the ones that sat at out table a couple years ago, who went horse back riding and then came straight to dinner? Wow, those jeans stunk like horse.

What does that have to do with anything about jeans & the MDR?

I mean you are from the state where the old timer pedos roam & abduct 50k kids per year - n'est pas?

Talk about something to be proud of....u?

Then why do they state NO Shorts in the MDR (for dinner) and then allow people in with SHORTS??????? I do not believe that RCCL has anything in writing that prohibits jeans in the MDR.

I wouldn't wear jeans in the MDR anymore than I'd wear them to church or a job interview. I feel like the MDR is "dressed up" for us - white tablecloths, napkins and fine china - and we should reciprocate. It sets a 'mood'.

And how much a pair of jeans cost is meaningless - jeans are jeans.

On the other hand, I gotta be honest and say I derive a great deal of entertainment from people-watching - particularly on formal night :p

Do you think that is the attitude of Christ?

Just asking, not judging.

Isn't a sign of respect for the institution?

Oh, this is going to get pulled anyway, so I'll say that I understand that sentiment, but the problem with thinking like that, especially in a religious institution is that it, by default, means that those less fortunate, that may have to come to church homeless, dirty, or unable to buy nicer clothing or what have you are considered disprespecting the institution if they can't keep up with the more fortunate worshippers.

So, what it boils down to is that those that may need prayer and religion the most in their lives will be precieved as disrespectful and 'less than'. In my very humble opinion.

But, we are not talking about "those less fortunate, that may have to come to church homeless, dirty, or unable to buy nicer clothing or what have you are considered disprespecting the institution if they can't keep up with the more fortunate worshippers."

We are talking about people who can afford to go on a cruise.... and should be able to afford to buy the proper clothing, as set forth in the dress code.

Um, no that isn't what we were talking about. The quote you pasted of mine was in reference to those attending church services. For my take on the jeans/shorts on casual night in the MDR please feel free to see the very first post in this thread on page 1!:)

You know I was going to post the same thing but I thought if I waited, it wouldn't take long for you to set the record straight. You rock Luckyprincess.

Wow - I can't believe that the poll is so tight to 'neither is ok' and 'jeans/no shorts'. Weird.... I would have thought there were a lot more shorts folks with the way people foam at the mouth about it on here. I have actually never noticed what people are wearing in the MDR unless it's an amazing outfit or shoes:p! I also am usually engrossed in conversation and am not staring at people as they walk in. As I typed that, I realized how said that seems, being so bored that you're just staring at the door:

No, I was responding to the poster that couldn't understand why anyone would ever take jeans on a cruise. You are welcome to wear your tux horseback riding.

I don't know what the point of this poll is anyway. It's simple. There are two groups of cruisers: those that wear what they want and those that wear what the guidelines suggest. Neither group is going to be influenced by the outcome of this poll. RCCL isn't going to influenced by the outcome of this poll.

I'm in the group that wears what the guidelines suggest. RCCL has a preference relative to what their passengers should wear for dinner. They aren't just filling in space on their website or Compass. Whether they enforce it or not, it is still their preference. Just like some cruisers have their own preferences for what they want to wear.

So, the bottom line is that one group cares about what RCCL prefers and the other doesn't.

But in practical terms & more to this poll, religion should be off topic - since bloodshed are fought over that type of stuff over the centuries.

We should limit it to the context of this institution & I would suspect that any1 wanting to attend the MDR with all its fine dining accoutrement should be respectful of all that it represent esp. since they CAN afford to cruise in the first place :)

& 1 of the ways over the centuries that we respect our host & their institution is to dress in certain classic norms.
