Bakincakes Posted September 26, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 26, 2009 Friends are sailing to San Juan and were wondering how good the prices are at the Baccardi factory? I've never been to the factory, when in San Juan , So I can't tell them if they will be getting good deals there or not. Thanks!!
Krazy Kruizers Posted September 26, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 26, 2009 We went to the Bicardi Rum factory quite a number of years ago -- at that time there wasn't a store to buy anything there. Things may have changed in recent years. We were very disappointed in the tour -- saw nothing of the actual process. We were given a recorder for the self guided tour -- where we went from room to room and looked at pcitures and some antiques. The last room was a mock-up bar where a bartender talked about the various types of rum and various drinks that can be made. Once outside we got to sample one rum drink. In the cruise terminal there is a duty free shop -- might be able to get Bicardi Gold there.
gregdude Posted September 26, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 26, 2009 Unless you have nothing else to do in San Juan the tour is not worth the trip out to the factory (takes about 45 minutes on a bus. Once there they take you on a tram over to a museum for a walk through the history of the company. They then take you back to the welcome center where you get a free drink and have a chance to look around the rather extensive store. They have a complete selection of their products and I guess compared to the mainland they are less expensive, but you can probably do better in town if all you want is a bottle of rum. As stated previously you see nothing of the actual production process (as of two years ago).
coffeeclutch1 Posted September 26, 2009 #4 Share Posted September 26, 2009 I bought Bacardi gold on ship when we went to Alaska. $11 for one, $21 for two. (1 liter) Cheaper than home
