How is the weather to cruise from SanDiego to the Mexican Riveria in January. We are thinking about a 10 day and are afraid of the weather.

Usually only the first and last day will be chilly. After that the more south you get it will be nice and sunny. In Puerto vallarta it will be nice and warm.

No one can predict with any certainty what sea conditions will be at any time of year. Anyone who tells you different is just guessing.

It *should be* nice and warm BUT remember two years ago when they had that insane cold spell?? I know people who lived down there that had to use down quilts and sweaters to keep warm.

 

I also don't trust those weather websites, usually they are wrong.

I think the OP's "fear" is about sea conditions rather than air temperatures.

3 years ago "winter" was so blasted cold here in Cabo - there were many days where I wore long pants and a jacket - this lasted for about 5 weeks. I would have paid a fortune for mitten or gloves but no one knew what they were here! 2 years ago was ok but a few cold days and last year was warm the entire "winter" - I don't recall one day with a jacket. But early mornings and nighttime can be abit chilly. Water temp rarely varies year to year...January is usually nice in low-mid 70's. Virtually 0% chance of rain. Tossing a coin may get you a more accurate forecast than any weather website of what Cabo will be like. Just checked the website...says currently here it is mostly cloudy...tell that to the crystal blue cloudless sky.

just my experience..cold in LA, some rain..first night at sea was very cold..have a jacket handy..

 

second night we could feel the warm humid air blowing in our faces..and it just got hotter the further south we sailed..

We did the same (Mexican Riviera) cruise last January 3rd on Holland America. The ship was fine but the weather at sea was too cool/cold to enjoy much time out on the deck. In two ports we had warm weather in the morning and stormy (cold) weather in the afternoon. Those open-air restaurants and resorts we went to just don't cut it when a cold wind is blowing.

 

Weather is always a variable, However In my opinion, it was a mistake to do the cruise in January. The weather makes all the difference.

 

The caribbean has better weather in January.

Yep can be unpredictable. I have been on 7 Mexican Riviera cruises and have done a couple in January. One the first and last sea day were chilly but all other days nice and sunny and one where all days were sunny and warm.

 

On the plus side, whale watching in Cabo is a fantastic experience and January you should be able to book tours.

the seas were nt that bad heading south..but, on the return it was windy and they locked many of the doors onto the promenade..

 

the only ones out were a few smokers:o
