ESTA documents leaving from LA

Hi,

started thinking about this when I read the cruise docs. It stated this:

"the airlines will be ensuring that the ESTA information has been completed at check in. For cruise check-in, our guests need to bring a printed copy of their ESTA receipt and present this at the pier when checking in for a cruise that will call/finish at any US port."

and:

"if your cruise does not start in the US, but calls at any US ports during the itinerary or at disembarkation, you will need to complete the ESTA"

Does this mean I don't need to have the ESTA approval printed out when checking in in LA? The ship calls in Mexico, Central America countries and ends in San Juan.

The problem is, when I applied for the ESTA approval I did not print it out nor save the application number.

We're flying into the states on saturday, so I need to hurry if I have to reapply to get the approval printed out.

Any international passengers that have experiences on this?
