Do men wear suits on Carnival Elegant/Formal evenings?

Is it typical for men to wear a suit on Elegant/Formal Night on Carnival? Ian just bought a new one & I figured he could wear it for both Formal/Elegant nights instead of packing two diff outfits. I don't want him to feel overdressed if this is so out-of-place for Carnival these days.

I'll be wearing cocktail dresses to the knee for those nights, so we'd be probably equal in terms of fanciness. :p.

I just posted this on my roll call but thought I might get more responses on here. What do the fashion gurus think? Anyone been on Carnival recently? Thanks!!

My last Carnival Cruise I wore a tux and didn't feel out of place as there were several others. The majority however were in suits and sport coats, so Ian will be mainstream for this line. He could lighten up the tie or no tie on elegant nights.

I've noted on Carnival the itinerary and time of year matters, as an older crowd (by Carnival standards) tends to dress up more.

Hope this helps.

Toni,

It really depends on the time of year and itinerary, but he should wear the suit.

There will be those men who opt for only a shirt and tie, but they always look half dressed to me.

I always wear a minimum of a suit on Carnival. I never feel overdressed.

Besides, if there are any ladies at my table who get cold in the dining room - guess who gets to be chivalrous and let them borrow my jacket during dinner?;)

Thank you Gcurry & CJW! I just wanted to make sure that a suit wasn't going to be a strange occurrence in the dining room with the "Elegant" night.

My last two Carnival cruises were short ones & I don't remember what the men were wearing. Thanks again!
