Debnjit Posted October 4, 2009 #1 Share Posted October 4, 2009 My hubby and I are doing this cruise and stay. We asked to swap it round so that we do the Cruise first and then the stay in Sharm after, to relax after all the sightseeing. Anyone else done that? This is our first ever cruise. Does anyone have any tips about alternative excursions companies? I have heard that some companies do the day trips differently, so that you miss the crowds? Also, can these be booked on line, or is that too risky?
jenny wren Posted October 4, 2009 #2 Share Posted October 4, 2009 If you put 'red sea magic' into the 'search this forum' box at the top right hand side.. it will bring up loads of information for you....
Chaffesbird Posted October 5, 2009 #3 Share Posted October 5, 2009 We are also doing this cruise in February. We fly out from Gatwick on the 11th and after the cruise we are staying for a week at the Reef Oasis Blue Bay Resort. We are hoping to do Petra, Cairo and Luxor so a week relaxing afterwards was a must for us.
jenny wren Posted October 5, 2009 #4 Share Posted October 5, 2009 Good idea to stay for a week to recover!!! the trips to Petra, Cairo and Luxor are tiring but well worth it .......it is best to go on the organised excursions... Thomson prices are very reasonable and they have got the organisation of them off to a fine art....you will go in convoys of coaches with armed guards and police escorts travelling at speed, and you will see them stop the traffice to let you pass in the busy part of the trips such as Cairo. I do feel that these are 'once in a lifetime' experiences so are worth the cost.
Chaffesbird Posted October 5, 2009 #5 Share Posted October 5, 2009 Thanks for that. We will definitely be doing the organised trips because, as you say, they are once in a lifetime. Better start saving now !!!
mtt Posted October 10, 2009 #6 Share Posted October 10, 2009 What currency do you tip the ship staff in on the red sea cruise, maybe best for uk sterling
jenny wren Posted October 10, 2009 #7 Share Posted October 10, 2009 Remember tips are included in the cost of the cruise....having said that I'm sure whatever currency you have will be fine as they can spend any of it in Egypt ....not sure how staff deal with their cash perhaps pay it into a bank account via the ship which wouldn't be a problem.
