Quick ? about trip insurance!

Recommended Posts

I usually buy trip insurance just before the Cruise Line penalties start to kick in (% taken away for late cancellation). I would never cruise without trip insurance, not after some of the stories I've read on here.

I have a cruise booked for June, 2010 - not positive I'm keeping it yet, but no real need for insurance at this point.

In most cases changing dates is considered canceling. You can buy insurance that could cover your cancellation costs, but you would still be out the cost of the insurance and any additional cost to rebook the cruise and plane tickets (if needed) at the last minute which may cost more than your original reservation.

Generally I would recommend if you don't think you can make your dates I would just wait to book. Cruise ships rarely sellout and when they do it doesn't happen until its weeks away.

Buy your insurance when you make your final payment . . . unless you have a preexisting medical issue. Most insurance does not cover you if you just change your mind or have a work issue that forces you to cancel. RCCL insurance lets you apply 75% of the cost toward another cruise if you cancel for non-medical reasons.
