luv2cruzstl Posted October 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted October 6, 2009 We want to book a cruise for next July, I know things can arise but my question is do you need the insurance if you may have to change the dates(not cancel)? Thanks in advance!
cb at sea Posted October 6, 2009 #2 Share Posted October 6, 2009 Depends how far out you are and what the cruise contract says about it....You would actually be cancelling one cruise and booking another....
kicker Posted October 6, 2009 #3 Share Posted October 6, 2009 I usually buy trip insurance just before the Cruise Line penalties start to kick in (% taken away for late cancellation). I would never cruise without trip insurance, not after some of the stories I've read on here. I have a cruise booked for June, 2010 - not positive I'm keeping it yet, but no real need for insurance at this point.
Beowulfpk Posted October 6, 2009 #4 Share Posted October 6, 2009 In most cases changing dates is considered canceling. You can buy insurance that could cover your cancellation costs, but you would still be out the cost of the insurance and any additional cost to rebook the cruise and plane tickets (if needed) at the last minute which may cost more than your original reservation. Generally I would recommend if you don't think you can make your dates I would just wait to book. Cruise ships rarely sellout and when they do it doesn't happen until its weeks away. Papa T Posted October 6, 2009 #5 Share Posted October 6, 2009 Buy your insurance when you make your final payment . . . unless you have a preexisting medical issue. Most insurance does not cover you if you just change your mind or have a work issue that forces you to cancel. RCCL insurance lets you apply 75% of the cost toward another cruise if you cancel for non-medical reasons.
