Hotel recommendation at Sydney airport

Trying to put land package together. Coming in early to Sydney for 3 days, then up to the GBR for 3 days, coming back to Sydney for 1 night precruise. Thought it best to stay around the airport so we could take advantage of the transfer from airport to ship.

 

Just need something basic, clean with an airport shuttle would be nice.

Your cruise transfer is that good a deal that you would stay out where there is nothing? (OK not so far out but still very little in the way of tourist services) There really isn't much out there and a search of airport hotels will find hotels in the Central Business District. Get yourself back in town and enjoy your night in Sydney.

Thought it best to stay around the airport so we could take advantage of the transfer from airport to ship.

There's no advantage in getting the cruise line's transfer from the airport to the ship, particularly as you won't be staying at the airport because there are no true airport hotels in Sydney.

 

Whichever airport hotel you stay at, it's likely to take you 15 to 20 minutes to get from the hotel to wherever you'd meet the cruise line transfer at the airport. That's pretty much about how long it takes to get from the airport to the ship by taxi.

 

If you are going to three days on the Reef, go straight there when you arrive in Australia so that you simply connect at Sydney airport. Then come back for a 4-night stay in Sydney. This minimises the waste of time involved in packing and unpacking and travelling backwards and forwards. When you get back to Sydney, just jump in a taxi and go to a hotel in the city, where you will be close to everything you want to see.
