New Beverage Program is here!

Don't mean to put an damper on this new party boat atmosphere, but I just feel that Celebrity can not call it self a "premium cruise line" while at the same time market itself as the best party ship afloat.

Probably Celebrity is just trying to match the all inclusive cruise lines, but my experience in running several business is that every time a corporation tries to be all things to all people, fails every time.

I sail to rest and relax and just speaking for my self, I have no desire to sail any cruise line on which, I may have a cabin next to passengers who have purchased the "Premium Liquor Package" and then also felt the need to add the "Unlimited Beer Package".

I find it beyond hypocritical that Celebrity stopped passengers from bringing their own liquor on board for what they said was for the safety of all passengers and now, for the right price, this issue conveniently looses all importance.

IMHO, this is a huge mistake by Celebrity.

You're assuming these packages are going to lead to more drinking. There is no basis for that assumption at all. If the packages were significantly more affordable, you might have a point, but only serious drinkers are going to even break even with these.

While many people will not find value in the drink packages, you do and that is what it is all about - choices.

Enjoy

Griswalds

I am actually quite excited to hear that Celebrity has started a beverage program.

My husband just booked us on a 14 night Panama Canal cruise. He drinks Captain & Coke and I am a Coors Light drinker.

We have been on 3 night cruises with a $1,000 bar tab  Yeah, I know... But we were with lots of friends (all of my cruising has been with groups of friends. This is the first time we will be cruising alone)

So, I believe this is going to save us money.

$34.50 x 14 = $483

$51.50 x 14 = $721

Total tab = $1,204

Average that out and that is $86 per day for our drinks. A drink at noon, a drink in the afternoon, drinks with dinner, drinks at the casino, drinks at the clubs....

Knowing what our bar tab will be at the end our cruise = priceless...

That's exactly what I mean and speaking for myself, I choose not to have a cabin, dining table or theater seat next to these serious drinkers. As the Griswalds said, it is all about choices and I know that I have made mine.

Choices are what it is all about and for those who like the all you can drink packages, enjoy your Celebrity cruises.

My point is, they (serious drinkers) are cruising anyway, and drinking the same amount regardless. Your whole point was the introduction of the packages is somehow turning Celebrity into a party barge--the truth is, the amount drunk per cruise won't change significantly at all.

I too was thinking WTH were these people talking about when they mentioned $6.61 a drink? I drink Grey Goose Martini's and my partner drinks Glenlivit. Those are $9 and $11 drinks, so for us it would be $10.35 and $11.50 per drink. We usually have one or two before dinner and one or two after (4) ... yes thanks, we're big boys and we can hold it...and a nightcap of Amaretto or Sambuca in my coffee or something like that which is $6.90. I will have a Bloody Ceaser at breakfast $6.90 and on Sea Days, a drink or two in the after noon. $11.50 and $6.90. That would come out to about $72. This is an approximation. I may drink less or I may drink more - who knows. Since Celebrity Entertainment has been cr%p since Jan of 2007, the bars have been a lot of fun...Martini, Champagne, etc. I also like Patron Anejo some nights which is included in the Premium. That is $13.8. It's like paying for snow plowing for the season. Some winters you win, some winter the plower wins, some winters yo just break even, but I like the convenience. You all are acting like you are being forced into it and anyone who buys it is a fool. I beg to difffer. For us, it works. The bottled water and the Premium Liquor packages. Your mileage may differ.

I rarely drink at home (in case my AA sponsor catches me...) and enjoy the opportunity onboard since there is always someone to point me to my cabin.... Don't worry, I doubt I will wake any of you cheap SOB's down on the Continental Deck with my drunken roudyness! Geesh, the way you all just want to complain and become the worst "personal" accountants .... and the lady who wrote that incredibly trite letter to Celebrity. Well, I guess it IS all about YOU, huh?

I need a drink.....:D Kent, this is surely going poof in the night, so catch it while you can!

Wineguys and others (you know who you are!),

You really summed it up well - what is it with all these people that feel they need to be our "personal accountants" (as you say) and/or make various assumptions about the way we will act? If someone decides to buy a package or decides not to - why should I criticize? After all - it's none of my da%n business! It's not like I paid for anyone else's vacation.

But as someone else said, it's all about choices, and mine definitely will be to buy a package.

Cheers, and I hope to see as many of you as possible on the Equinox in April!

Regardless of who wins, you know you're getting plowed! :D:D:D

I, personally, hope I'm lucky enough to sail with you sometime. You sound like an absolute BLAST to hang out with.

I think some of you are simply being over dramatic because I have seen soem of these bills and at the same time have wondered myself silly just how in the world these folks were able to run up such a bill and me not notice it while on cruise. The point is you probably won't notice too much of a difference and if you do I bet X will stop those packages sooner than you can blink.

They didn't just suck these number out of their fingers they took a look at all the data they have been collecting from you, me and all the other cruisers and had a look at what the average person actually drinks and if those numbers change dramatically over the first few weeks maybe even the first quarter of next year - they will either change the prog, charge more or do something else.

The drinkers have always been there you obviously just haven't noticed.

My husband has purchased the beer package however it does not mean he will drink anymore than he would have even if there had been no package, what it does mean is his beer is costing him less

Feel safe in your bed if we had been on your cruise there would have been no late night singing down the corridor at 58 my husband is a little old for that

Never pre judge anyone because they decide to have a beverage package

Live and let live holidays are meant to be a happy time and a party atmosphere , stay at home if this does not suit you+

Exactly. Some of us can, in fact, hold our booze.... although on this cruise, I plan on getting so plastered on New Years Eve, I intend to walk the lower decks at 3 am singing "The Morning After" - the Acadamy Award Winning Song from The Poseidon Adventure......:p

Oh Oh can I come too?:D

Karen, the more the merrier, but we will have to hit Plaza and Vista decks, before a swing through the Royal & Penthouse suites just to make sure we are egalitarian!!!

There's got to be a morning after

If we can hold on through the night

We have a chance to find the sunshine

Let's keep on lookin' for the light

Oh, can't you see the morning after

It's waiting right outside the storm

Why don't we cross the bridge together

And find a place that's safe and warm

It's not too late, we should be giving

Only with love can we climb

It's not too late, not while we're living

Let's put our hands out in time

[WE ALL STOP FOR ANOTHER SWIG OF OUR COCKTAILS, WHICH WE HAD PURCHASED FROM OUR RIP-OFF LIQUOR, BEER, WINE & SODA PACKAGES AND.....CONTINUE!]

There's got to be a morning after

We're moving closer to the shore

I know we'll be there by tomorrow

And we'll escape the darkness

We won't be searchin' any more

There's got to be a morning after

(There's got to be a morning after)

There's got to be a morning after

(There's got to be a morning after)

There's got to be a morning after

(There's got to be a morning after)

There's got to be a morning after

(There's got to be a morning after)

There's got to be a morning after

[Fade]

(There's got to be a morning after)

Yeah, the good old days! Our Cruise in August 1985 was our 10 year anniversary, and we can blame that cruise for the $60K or so we have spent since that time, since that cruise hooked us into Cruising.

Not sure if they did this when you cruised in 1992, but in 85 RCCL (and it was probably the norm for Cruise Lines) the dining room waiters would bring your entree to dinner then would walk around with separate bowls of vegetables and different salad dressings for your salads. None of the the "here it is" there is now.

Cheers!

Yes, gpnfish they did that on our cruise too. By the way I forgot to mention we sailed in August also. Then, for a lot of reasons we didn't get back to doing a cruise for 10 years, but since 2002 we've been trying make up for lost time by doing 2 a year - I get 3 weeks vacation & we try to fill that time up with some combination of cruises. :)

Wineguys, shorebilly,Daveythescot - I would love to cruise you you guys sometime. I remember most of the word, but the lyrics will come in handy. You never know what the pre paid for packages may do to the memory. We will be buying the beer package for my DH and me the soda. I just can't wait until March. I like the idea of starting out on the lower decks and then moving up as the pipes warm up. Better singing voices for the penthouse guys. HaHa

Has anyone confirmed that you ARE able to use the packages with room service.

For us, the beer packages would be worth it if they were. We normally live on our balcony during the day ordering beer by the bucket and don't frequent the bars & pool. We do our bar hopping in the evening but also switch to wine.

I'm intrigued by the convenience of the package (my usual drink is beer) and would probably be close to breaking even on it.

Sometimes I have a couple of beers as a nightcap in my cabin at the end of the day. But will I have to order them from room service one at a time? The delivery guy might get pretty frustrated going back and forth!

You cannot use the Package with room service. Unless you have a cool Butler, which I hope we do. The RS/PH butlers usually are. Let's hope. But these cabins are right near the Rendezvous/Martini/Champange Bars on the Connie/Millie (my ships of choice), I don't mind grabbing my last nightcap and heading up.

Terri, Bob, 6502, ditto!

Amanda, Cheryl - I have your cabin numbers, I know where to find you.

Ed - Oh he\\ no! I can't carry a tune. That's the fun of the hallway singing....LOL! :D:D

The one package for me that's totally worth it is the soda package. I'm a big soda drinker, so me this is worth it, but I really can't see some of the other packages. Celebrity is not the party cruise lines that some are and I hope they don't go that route. We're sailing on the Summit in May and there's a notification that we can buy the packages as of November 15. I wonder if maybe they're re-evaluating the packages and hopefully will make changes based on the feedback they're getting. For one, I would love them to have an all-inclusive non-alcoholic beverage package!
