We are going on a 12 night out of Sydney to Auckland on the Diamond Princess embarking January 4, 2010. The shorex's for the cruise look fairly uninteresting. Can anyone recommend which shorex's to take or is it feasible to book your own in the terminals at each port? Also, any recommendations on what do do in Sydney and Auckland for the pre and post? Thx!

Hi there are a million things to do in Sydney...most not very expensive...I will try and find the link for you on Aussies input into 10 top things to do in Sydney.

In the meantime here is a short list. If you google the theme you will get lots of info

Climb Sydney Harbour Bridge (need to book well in advance)

Take a Harbour Ferry Ride to Manly (no need to book)

Visit Taronga Zoo (on the Harbour can get by ferry)

See the view from Centrepoint Tower (no need to book make sure you do the virtual tour of Australia while you are there)

Take a bus to Bondi Beach

Do the Bondi to Bronte cliff top walk (Fabulous and free)

Visit the Aquarium and Australian Wildlife Expos at Darling Harbour (no need to book)

Shop for souvenirs at the Rocks (Historic part of Sydney very near overseas cruise terminal)

Personally I would not take the long ship excursions to the Blue Mountains while they are lovely mountains you will miss out on a lot.

You will find most of the Aussies and Kiwis over on the P and O board..feel free to ask questions there.

Enjoy!:p
