"Upsell Fairy" - probably a dum question but....

I've cruised many times and have never gotten upgraded. I'm booked on Valor 12/6. I see a lot of postings for calls on upsells. My question is..... Do you have to have originally booked your cruise through Carnival to qualify for an upsell or can you have booked it anywhere as long as final payment has been made?? How far in advance do they call? I have an inside guarantee and hope to be upgraded to ANYTHING (we went cheap but I love my balcony!).

They can call your TA, they cant call you directly, so it depends on if your TA is the type to fuss with passing the offer to you. Kinda cuts down on the negotiating when you cant talk to Carnival directly.

be careful mentioning who you booked thru, you can get told to go stand in the corner, its against the rules. lol
