If you just want to have a beach day, there's no need for an excursion! The beaches are easy cab rides, both coming and going!

If you really want to see and swim at the most gorgeous beach, look into going to St. Johns....Trunk Bay....the water is so clear and warm, it's hard to tell that you're even IN the water....it's amazing!

Going to St. John would involve taking a local 45-minute ferry from Charlotte Amalie, STT, over to St. John. then, rent-a-jeep or take a taxi to Trunk Bay, which has an underwater snorkeling trail around an offshore island. It is truly a beautiful beach, but gets lots of shore excursion pax from numerous cruise lines. Then, it's getting back to the ferry point for another 45-min. ferry ride back to Charlotte Amalie, STT. In STT, you will be surrounded by an abundance of "open air" taxis willing to take you to Megan's Bay or Koki Beach. It's fairly cheap, BUT...you have to sit and wait until at least 10 people are crammed onto each bench seat on these open air taxis, and they will not budge until every space is filled! Same thing happens on your return trip from Megan's Bay or Koki Beach. You also have to pay an admission fee for Trunk Bay (St. John) and Megan's Bay and Koki Beach (St. Thomas).

cb at sea - you're a really nice person, but I have to question the "easy cab ride" thing! Back "in the day", it was a pretty easy thing. Not so much now.

BehrHunter - you'll be glad to know that there are few "lines of immigrants" waiting to transport you to St. John! They're pretty much locally born. The only "lines of immigrants" you're likely to see are shop owners and non-US citizens who have fully paid for their cruise and pay money to do any excursions on St. Thomas/St. John. And, your ship's Captains and Officers.
