map70065 Posted November 4, 2009 #2 Share Posted November 4, 2009 Planning a trip to Mardi Gras 2010. Would like to stay on St. Charles parade route. Any suggestions. It really depends on what you want to do. If you're just here for the parades just about anywhere on St. Charles is good - but keep in mind you're going to be paying more for that. There are a LOT of hotels along St. Charles. If you're going to want to be closer to the French Quarter that limits you some - but there are still places. Also keep in mind that during Mardi Gras the St. Charles streetcars aren't running all the time - they close down before the parades (a couple hours I think) and don't reopen until a couple hours after the parades - so that cuts out a BIG chunk of time you can use them. Are you looking for a hotel or B&B? Big group or small? Family or singles?
cobo Posted November 17, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted November 17, 2009 Would like to try a B&B but have no problem with a hotel. It will just be the Wife and I. I grew up in Slidell but moved away in 1973. I have been to many Mardi Gras but a long time ago. Would like the wife to experience it once. Not worried about the cable cars. I remember walking St. Charles many times. Any tips would be appreciated. My first job in the early 70s was at Walgreens on Royal Street, so I kinda know my way around. Margaret Garden Inn - http://www.margaret-place.com/ is close to St. Charles (1 block away). I've had friends stay there and they liked it. It's in the lower Garden District, right off the interstate so not TOO far from the CBD and the Quarter. The Grand Victorian - http://www.gvbb.com/ is in the Garden District and ON St. Charles. Nice area. The Sully Mansion - http://www.sullymansion.com/index.htm is also in the Garden District - a block away from St. Charles. Haven't been there, but know the house was completely redone for a recent movie, so should be in good shape. Hotel wise - Royal St. Charles http://www.royalsaintcharleshotel.com/ and Parc St. Charles http://www.neworleansfinehotels.com/parcstcharles/ are between Poydras and Canal on St. Charles. Both are acceptable places. Watching the parades from this area isn't as good as farther down (Garden District or Lower Garden District) because they put up barracades in that area. Maison St. Charles http://www.maisonstcharles.com/ is in the Lower Garden District on St. Charles. Hotel LeCirque http://www.hotellecirqueneworleans.com/ is on Lee Circle, so right between the Garden District and French Quarter - and where the floats turn the corner. Those are some ideas for you.
