sunseeker09 Posted November 19, 2009 #26 Share Posted November 19, 2009 What would be another place similar to Cemetary beach that would be more kid friendly eg. bathrooms, showers. Were looking to do the beach scene away from crowds, an would like to include a little snorkeling, as well, but if snorkeling is not possible then the beach will be just fine. Finally were not up for the over-priced ship excursions, just a bus or cab fare to get us there, basically a public beach. Thanks If you go to Sea Grape you can opt to not rent the chairs. It's more crowded right around there anyway. If you're willing to sit on towels/mats you can sit just a teenie bit down from Sea Grape. There's a nice chunk of beach and public washrooms right threre. There are also litle wooden palapa sort of things where you can escape the sun at any time (or a brief shower). If you want a bite or a drink you can still go to Sea Grape and get something, and use their washrooms too. No snorkeling there though. It's sandy bottom. good for swimming though. You can take the bus there and back easily.

Snorkel2Much Posted December 8, 2009 #28 Share Posted December 8, 2009 Which is the private walkway?? There is (or at least used to be) a path marked with a sign reading "Public Beach Access". There are other, private walkways, that quite obviously wind through beachfront condo areas or through the middle of the cemetery, avoid those paths. It's not hard to tell. Sargent_Schultz Posted December 9, 2009 #29 Share Posted December 9, 2009 Across the square from the bus station is Fort Street Market with all kinds of stuff for sale. The buses are minivans and if you are wet they are going to want to have a dry towel to sit on. Also the amount of junk you can carry on is pretty much limited to your lap. Parts of the reef remain after Hurricane Ivan and there are some reef balls providing habitat. Here are some pictures from a couple of years ago... http://www.zydecocruiser.com/conquest_07/GC/cb.htm
sstich79 Posted December 11, 2009 #30 Share Posted December 11, 2009 How deep is the water on the swim out to the reef? And how long does it take to swim out there? My group can handle swimming some distance, but I worry that some of them will be scared if it's too deep.
