Priceline Finally Comes Through for February

I know many of us have been trying for hotels in San Juan through Priceline for the upcoming months. After weeks and weeks of trying Priceline to get a hotel for our 3 day pre-cruise stay (02/17/05 - 02/20/05), we finally got a 'hit' today! :)

We put in the price of $120.00 ($145.00 with tax and fees) for a 3*** hotel and the Radisson Ambassador accepted the bid! :D That hotel is in the Condado area on Ashford Ave. and down the street from the Wyndham Condado. I had put in the same bid earlier in the week and was rejected so they obvioulsy have released some room inventory to Priceline in the last day or so. We have not stayed there before but will look forward to trying a new hotel. It has a pool (on the rooftop) and is a block from the beach. It was renovated in late 2003 so it should be just fine. Compared to some of the rates we had been seeing for the past couple of months, this is a terrific deal. On their site, the same room for the same time frame showed $209.00 p/night. Maybe some others will now do the same. I am actually okay with that price as 2 years ago we got the Wyndham Hotel in Condado for $100.00 per night so the $20.00 more is reasonable.

Now all I have to do is cancel my backup hotel and wait for the next 6 weeks to go by! :D

We stayed at the Radisson Ambassador Dec 9-12 pre cruise, got it for $75 night. The Rooms were OK but the hotel is worn. One of the two elevators to the regular rooms doesn't completely stop on the floors, sometimes an inch or so difference from the floor. The hot tub on the roof was out of order, they had sent the motor away for repair. Also one of the restaurants they advertise in the elevator was closed. You do get a coupon for a free rum drink in the bar outside the casino. They will let you have a non rum drink also. It is a clean hotel though. We rented a vehicle from Thrifty got a good deal on the web site. You pay $8 day for parking at ambassador. If you go on the highways, there are toll roads, so take coins, we thought you had to have exact change some where .35, .75 and $1.00. On the plane back I was talking to a mother and daughter(Puerto Ricans) that told me you don't need exact change you can even through pennies in. Then she showed me her huge sack of change that she pulled out of her purse. I'll bet the purse was heavy. My husband had told me before we left home to leave my film cansister with quarters, nickles and dimes home and was glad I didn't listen to him when we got to the first toll. We went to El Convento for Tapas and had their Mojito, if you haven't done it--do it, not cheap but neat.
