aussietrek Posted November 17, 2009 #1 Share Posted November 17, 2009 I have sailed with RCI three times, twice on Explorer of the Seas and once on Liberty of the Seas. This year I need to book at a certain time, and the only cruise ship available for the dates and locations I need is Jewel of the Seas. It seems much smaller than these other two. Can anyone who has been on the Explorer (or another that class) and the Jewel (or another in that class) let me know the differences? Thanks! cb at sea Posted November 17, 2009 #2 Share Posted November 17, 2009 It's really not THAT much smaller! Aside from the Grand Promenade on the Voyager class and Freedom class ships, there's not that much difference! Even the smallest, oldest ships are quite large. You can walk yourself to death on the Radiance class ships! The thing I like least about Radiance Class is the Solarium...it has a retractable roof which is seldom, if ever, opened, so you don't have an "adult" tanning area. Rare silentbob007 Posted November 18, 2009 #3 Share Posted November 18, 2009 The biggest difference is the lack of a promenade and centralized gathering points. Jewel is a beautiful ship with lots of ammenities, but it is missing some options Explorer has (no ice rink, full-sized basketball court, etc). It really depends on what you use when you cruise. I personally think that the Solarium on the Radiance class ships is the highlight because it is such a well-kept, beautiful space. :)
