OBC - How?

My computer crashed and I lost all my bookmarks. I had a page saved from here that spoke about the process of buying carnival funship dollars and having that money credited to your Sign and Sail account. What is the process of doing that, what is it called? Please help me.

Also, I am on a 8 day cruise, what is the cash deposit that must be put down. I do not want to use a cc.

Are they sold at a discounted rate?

No, funship dollars are dollar for dollar.

I see you have over 200 days til your sailing--what we do is each pay I buy one for 25.00 --it easily builds up over time. We cruise in March and to date I have 475. for onboard spending which will pay for tips and casino spendings

To the OP- you have only 27 days-- you will have to place money directly on your account as I would not chance of the certificate arriing before your cruise.

if you dont spend it all onboard you get a check back on the last morning.

You can buy them online. Also when you purchase them online you can apply them directly to your OBC. When you fill out the info to purchase, in the line for address, put your booking #, ship and cabin #. If you do not have a cabin #, just put "cabin TBA". You will receive an email confirming your purchase within 24 hours. It's an easy way to save for your cruise.

I am 3 weeks away from sailing. Is it too late to do this?

You should be able to do a Search on here for all things Funship Dollars. If you want to buy yourself some OBC in the form of Funship Dollars... the easiest way to do this is purchase them on-line from Gifts and Services at carnival.com. You can purchase however many of whatever denomination as often as you wish.

When ordering, simply enter 'ON BOARD CREDIT' on the first address line, and your Booking Number on the second address line. You'll get an email confirmation in minutes.

There's nothing to mail or have to cash in at the purser's desk or anything like that.

I would place onboard credit within 7 days of sailing (i think the site allows for 3 days-- but wouldnt want anything to go wrong)

The cut off for adding OBC is 14 days prior to sailing...

The easiest way is to call 800-906-7603. Tell them that you want to add money as on board credit, NOT Fun Ship Dollars. You'll need your booking number, sailing date and such.

Ask for a confirming email to be sent to you, print it and bring it along with your docs. Occasionally, things can go wrong and your documentation will ensure that you get proper credit.

I just realized the OP's question about using cash for the S&S card and how much deposit, hasn't been answered yet. This is from the Carnival website:

Cash Deposit:

U.S. Currency and Traveler's Checks are accepted as a form of deposit to open a Sail & Sign Account at the start of the cruise. As the guest approaches the deposit limit, the Information Desk will notify the guest that additional money must be deposited.

"Recommended" deposits per duration of the voyage are as follows:

2-4 day cruises: $100 deposit pp

5-8 day cruises: $200 deposit pp

9+ day cruises: $350 deposit pp

I was just thinking about the amount of money needed to be 'available' on the credit card you use for the S&S card. I seemed to remember that they had a specific amount per-person, per-day that they would 'hold; but under the FAQs on the website it says this:

How is my credit card charged?

During embarkation, when your credit card is swiped, an initial approval of $50 is obtained. Throughout the voyage incremental holds will be obtained. This will reduce the amount of available credit on the credit card or restrict the availability of cash in the checking /debit account. Authorization hold releases to your account is entirely up to your issuing bank.

All charges will be automatically billed at the end of the voyage. On the final morning of the cruise, a statement detailing all purchases made with your Sail & Sign card will be delivered to your stateroom. If you put down a cash deposit and there is an overpayment at the end of the cruise, you will receive the overpayment in the form of a check, attached to the detailed statement on the final morning of the cruise.

So, I assume you only would HAVE to have $50 available for the initial hold charged by Carnival, and then if you just deposited some cash on the account in the beginning to cover day to day expenses, that would work? The last time we sailed Splendor we decided to pay down some of our S&S account because we had gone a 'little crazy' in the spa, and it turned into somewhat of a hassle; they had to go in and refund a bunch of small, incremental charges to the credit card we had left, because it had been charging each day. This time we plan on opening it up with a credit card, and then putting a large cash deposit on the first day, to use that up first.

I would use the cash-- then place the CC on the account.

I have not ever had a cruise that was charged daily for onboard spending.

But have not cruised in over a year and half-- is this new?

I am putting where you go online to buy them since Ihd a hard time finding it when I was looking. It's where you can just put your name and booking number in the address and it is just applied to your account without having to physically have them.

When I went on my first cruise I opted not to use a credit card and just went to the purser's desk on the first day and added cash to my S&S I don't have a credit card but my grats were pd up also so that money was just for stuff onboard anyway. I only put $60 on my SS and got a ck for $2.28 back that I keep in a frame! LOL!

Will the Pursers desk have a long line on embarkation day?

Sometimes the line is pretty long, but you don't have to go immediately. You can use your card before you deposit cash. A good time to do it would probably be right after the muster drill.

If I do OBC prior to my cruise for the amount that is required for a cash deposit - do I still have to visit the pursurs desk?

Nope. We used cash on our first 3 cruises, but on the last one I put cash on OBC and didn't have to visit the purser's desk.

Thanks. I will make my credit 1st thing in the morning. I do not want to stand in any additional lines. I just want my serenity deck, fun ship special and sun.
