halos Posted December 6, 2009 #26 Share Posted December 6, 2009 Can't wait to see what the *compensation* demands will be! Hopefully, no one developed any ulcers in their mouths! ;) LOL..at least we can assume (likely correctly), that none of the passengers spent thousands of dollars on ball gowns. spencercoop Posted December 6, 2009 #29 Share Posted December 6, 2009 Just got a text from Floatie on the Dream. She said they lost a transformer which took the system down. Required an entire system reset. Some people were stuck in elevators for a bit... pretty much what we had heard. She said the event lasted about an hour... all is normal now... :) That's good it only lasted about an hour. At least it wasn't like that NCL ship. *Mach* Posted December 6, 2009 #30 Share Posted December 6, 2009 That's good it only lasted about an hour. At least it wasn't like that NCL ship. They apparently analyzed the issue pretty fast and swapped systems. She said that Todd did a great job keeping folks informed over the PA. The PA will operate on emergency power if need be. Just got another text from Floatie. She emphasized that it was a partial outage and the crew was on it fast.

waldocruiser1 Posted December 6, 2009 #32 Share Posted December 6, 2009 Does anyone think it is strange that the toilets, A/C, elevators, and kitchen fans are all on the same breaker. Also, Electric Toilets? I hope nobody was "shocked" when the power and toilets went out at the same time.

It wasn't a breaker they lost... it was a transformer that drove a number of circuits. :)

Savoia Posted December 6, 2009 #42 Share Posted December 6, 2009 "Something" happened on the Dream today shortly after lunch. Power was lost to several ship systems. All elevators went out, stranding some people in them for ? 15-20 ? minutes. AC on the whole ship was out for about an hour - the casino was VERY hot, and they asked everyone to stop smoking due to no ventilation. Slots were not working, table games continued. Cabin TV's were out as was all toilets. Internet also was down. Todd made many announcements and everything appears back to normal now. More details to follow (leak out - lol) no doubt! Tom NOT a good sign...these ships are continously being built with a very strict budget. I firmly believe corners are cut to come in on budget. G'ma Posted December 6, 2009 #43 Share Posted December 6, 2009 NOT a good sign...these ships are continously being built with a very strict budget. I firmly believe corners are cut to come in on budget. Not at all. It's not unusual for there to be glitches all over the place the first season a new ship is in the water. They'd never cut corners where safety and comfort of the ship and it's passengers would be at stake.

Glad I had input from Floatie on the ship to keep us all up to speed and avoid a bunch of wild speculation... :) Sure - but I bet they are gonna have to start charging for Ice Tea and do away with the Ships on a Stick now to pay for that blown transformer. ;):):D:)
skiatookcruiser Posted December 6, 2009 #45 Share Posted December 6, 2009 It is just like on land, you have transformers blow all the time. Doesn't mean they cut corners just happens with heavy loads sometimes!
Quampapetet Posted December 6, 2009 #46 Share Posted December 6, 2009 Note to self.............never get on an elevator when I simply MUST go to the bathroom. Doesn't matter; the toilets weren't flushing either! ;) I guess #1 wouldn't be so bad if you couldn't flush, but #2 wouldn't make your cabin smell so pleasant!! JTJ Posted December 6, 2009 #47 Share Posted December 6, 2009 I'd be interested to know if the transformer was just defective or under speced. They go out all the time on land because of lightening, old age, or tree limbs/critters. Not because they can't handle the load. Probably never know

steveaaaaa Posted December 6, 2009 #49 Share Posted December 6, 2009 Humph...well I NEVER!!! All I am is concerned about loved ones and a few people have to turn into instant feeling-hurters! Double-humph!!! I never said I expected the OP to fly out to the ship for names. Just hoping other readers might have more information. For what its worth...none of you know about my loved one's medical conditions and what could happen by being confined to a small area for long (note "long"' date=' not the normally short elevator ride) periods of time[/b']. To the OP: Thank you for this information. I appreciate your time in sharing this. Well if one has a condition and is stupid enough to put themselves in harms way, they have what ever is coming to them.If an elevator is an issue, than you don't go in one. IF you are allergic to salt water, you don't take an offshore fishing trip. If you are prone to sea sickness, you don't go off in a 14 ft boat. You use common sense. I suppose you want to know the names of those who were on the toilet at that time as well?
