How Do I Drink the Liquor in My Room...

When we are out and about, we use the bars.

when in our room or on a balcony, we use the booze in the room.

The orange-passo-guava juice that is on the Lido in the morning is a great mixer. i fill an insulated Carnival sports bottle in the morning and put it in the mini-fridge for later.

Haiwan punch drink sticks make a good substitute for the no longer available fruit punch on board. Pineapple juice is available from room service as well as orange juice.

We also bring Orange Juiced Rockstar energy drink to mix with rum for cocktails in the cabin.

I don't have any desire to run back and forth to mix drinks when we are out and about.

Mixing our own in the cabin is more about convience than price. I don't want to be running to a bar or waiting for room service to deliver one. Mixing my own drink at night out on the balcony seem 'special'............:)

We take the insulated "bubba keg" mugs in our luggage. My DH takes the 52oz & I think mine is a 20 or 24 oz.......My DH also takes two 12 packs of soda on board and uses the ice from the ice bucket filled twice daily in the room with his soda and liquor of choice. That 52 oz will last him quite awhile.:D

I purchased the "bubba kegs" at Target in the automotive section and also found them at Academy sports.

We've went on several cruises and are always stopped with "where did you get those cool mugs?????" We take them everywhere on the ship with no problems.

We buy our drinks from the bar, mostly the pool bar. We keep a small rum runner filled with Capt. Morgan or vodka and use that to add a floater. Best of both worlds!! The larger rum runners are in the cabin so we use those to pour into the smaller ones that fit into the beach /pool bag.

Just returned from the Splendor last week (5th cruise) but first with the rum rummers. They worked out very, very well. We were surprised at the end of the trip.

Our routine was to get ready for dinner, one of us take an 8 oz. runner with them, get a soda on the way to dinner or as soon as we sat down, drink down a little, then add some rum (our preferred item). One of our friends prefers wine but there was plenty of that on board so she didn't have to carry her rum runners around.

I also like the suggestions of the large, insulated drink mugs. Everyone on board is so casual, it's really not a problem. Good luck & have fun!

If we have a suite or a balcony we really like to hang out there. So I order a bottle or two from the bon voyage. It is nice to make rum and cokes or Jack Daniels and diet cokes for the balcony. When I go to the show after dinner I order a drink. I figure if I am flying the weight of the liqour or the hassel of finding it right before boarding is not worth saving the $ 50.00 approx for a very large bottle from Bon Voyage. Also I have had to call bon voyage to order flowers last 3 cruises. Used to be able to order flowers on website. Whats up with that?

Depends on your budget.

For a couple who paid $169 pp for a 4 day, 3 drinks per day pp @$6 each would be equal to 43% of their fare (not me or what I paid)

Or the $$ saved by bringing on a couple bottles of wine and ordering from Bon Voyage could be the difference for said same couple between an interior and an oceanview.

For me and DH (Dear/Darling/Damn Husband for the poster who asked) if we can save $50, $100, $150 by doing little things that won't inconvienience us, great. Living our lives frugally where it doesn't hurt to do so allows us to do so much more than if we didn't. For example, I shop sales, clip coupons, buy in bulk at the warehouse clubs, etc. In this area I am frugal. I also have a large home and a housekeeper. In this area I am not.

As for drinking on the ship, I like Bay Breezes. Two 4 day soda cards and a Bon Voyage bottle of Vodka would cost about $95...paired with a flask this would be an acceptable option and save us about $50 if we each have 3 drinks/day.

If I would have to run back and forth to my room everytime I wanted a drink it would not...for me, though I would guess it would work for some. Just drinking from the bottle when we are in the room would be silly for us. We do not drink enough to make it worthwhile.

Still interested in what everyone else does...I find it very interesting!

Me, I would dich the soda cards and drink from the drink fountains. since you are being frugal, that will save some money.

In my experience I had the same goal because I had never cruised before and heard all the things about pricing which scared us into a tight budget that lend itself into a recipie creating a miserable experience. after day two we threw out the budget thing and we were having a better and relaxing time. On a 4 day cruise I spent a total of 400 dollars between drinks, dining room wine, soda cards, one excursion and one video CD. Oh and tips.. BTW we are not tea toddlers, and we do our drinking mainly at night.

The prices on the ship are no more expensive than a bar. For 3 drinks a day IMHO it's not worth it. But if you feel it necessary refer back to the my 1st paragrapgh.

This is our first cruise. How easy is it to get a 5th of vodka and red bull on the ship. Should I pack it in my checked luggage or carry on?;)

DW and I used rum rummers, packed them and a 12-pack of diet mountain dew in our checked luggage. We had drinks on our balcony every night that way, figured it saved us $200 on our bar bill.

What is a tea toddler? I am confused and my imagination has it as something odd.

1st: Pirates_Cutie: You have the funniest signature I've ever seen.

2nd: I agree with the posters who said they used a large insulated up. Filling that up before leaving the room means you can go a decent amount of time without a lot of running back and forth to "refresh." Though once I'm out of the room, I tend to just get drinks at the bar or from a server.

You don't, you bring it to my cabin and I drink it! You silly!

OHHHH.

I sure wish you had told me sooner!

It would have saved me quite a bit of bought and contemplation!

What do you drink? (So that I can make sure to have the right stuff.)

lol

Just strap it on in the morning, good for the pool, lunch, bingo, casino, before and after super drinks and in the theatre in the evening ~~!!~~

You ought to patent this booze belt and sell it! I love it...and I thought I had it all figured out at my age after years of BYOBs everywhere. Now I wish my sewing machine worked.

aahh ..this is why I always have a cabin on the Lido deck. Short walk to breakfast and lunch and short walk back to the cabin for drinks while sunning.Of course I also have a big insulated mug to use. I don't bring it to the dining room:rolleyes: but don't care about bringing it to the casino and shows. It's all good :)

Such a conundrum. What about food. Do you have to go back and forth to the dining room to get food? If I stuff a turkey in my bathing suit, can I munch on it at the pool?

LMAO! ducksoup you are always good for a laugh!!

I think I will be bringing a large insulated mug and some run runners for my next cruise

a drink or two while dw gets ready for dinner, one in a glass for the walk to the dining room.

one loaded in the drink cup for walk to the pool, casino, show etc

never have returned to room to refill - too much work ... and too much flak from dw.

Awww, thank you! You have emboldened me to stick my neck out here (although I should know better) and answer the OP's question. First of all, though I do want to say that I was disturbed to read that those giant insulated mugs count as more than one drink?? Jeeze, lets just keep that to ourselves, shall we?

Personally I'm always trying to save money and, more importantly, calories. To that end, I do not want 2 or 3 weak drinks because I don't want to consume all that extra juice. What I want is one strong drink. I love the fou-fou umbrella drinks. But let's face it, the very fact that a drink is frozen tells you there's very little liquor in it. So, what I do is order one drink and spike it from my trusty small rum runner, which I keep in my deck or evening bag. I also order extra juice from room service at breakfast and stow it in the fridge for late night consumption on the balcony. I also pack some Crystal Light single servings. They mix well with vodka or rum and don't cause either you or your luggage to weigh more:D BTW, if you don't care about the calorie thing, the free lemonade from the buffet mixes very well with vodka. Also, make it a point to remember exactly where you got juice on the Lido at breakfast. The juice is (usually) still in the dispenser later on - only the sign has been removed (presumably to prevent us from doing what we have in mind:eek:). AND, just to reiterate the basics, liquor smuggling is done in your checked luggage NOT carry ons.
