Dawn 5 Night Review

This was our 5th cruise on the Dawn, our favorite ship. Boarding was a snap we hit the VIP lounge at 11 and aboard by 11:30. We met up with Anoop our concierge and former butler, nice guy. Then we met Ravi, our butler, who escorted us our AA 9006. It was too early for Cagneys so we were forced to have a drink or two pool side. After Cagneys our cabin was ready so off we go to explore our suite. Do you think they could put in any more light switches.....WOW....this on, that off...hit some switch and nothing happens...confusing, you bet...Shortly there after Ravi came in and took our liquor order, 3 bottles of liquor for a 5 night cruise, after substituting one for a bottle wine we got one tequila and one vodka with the appropriate mixers.

Our CC group was a small one so we met at the Bimini grill for the sailaway. After a while I suggested we go back to our suite and maybe dig into some of our alcohol.....no luck, it still wasn’t delivered, but they did promise to help with our liquor dilemma...

Dinner that night was at Bamboo, our favorite restaurant with a 2 for 1 discount. Then it was off the show. Anoop reminded us that we had special seating. That’s very nice but they have to be the worst seats in the house, you sit high, can’t see the whole stage and you end up looking through glass. For those of you that think this is a nice perk, you can have our seats anytime...

Our old friend Dave Heenan was the comedian so we were happy about that and we got our first taste of Jose and Patti, a really good duo appearing at Dazzles....

Our next day was a sea day so we bought our FCC and attended 2 cocktail parties, life is good...Another old friend Jose, Dr. Booze, the head bartender was working the parties so needless to say we did quite well...many martinis.

We chatted with Hugo then off to Dazzles to see Jose & Patti

We never ate in any main dining rooms so I can’t comment on the menus or the attire. Sorry fashionistas /fashion police but I did notice more that one person being told shorts were not allowed..

On our final day our CC buddies did come back to our cabin to help us with our alcohol problem but we still had some left....I didn’t plan on those beer drinkers, we should have done reverse rum runners..Our CC group was nice and small so everyone got know each other.

All our meals were very good, Le Bistro, Cagneys and Bamboo twice.

Cagneys every morning for breakfast is one of our favorite perks.

We only had 2 ports, Cayman Islands and Cozumel, both tender ports with 6 and 7 other ships in port. At the Caymans we got off for maybe an hour,it was way too crowded and at Cozumel we stayed onboard and enjoyed the empty ship. We had already been to both so no big deal for us.

The entertainment was very enjoyable. Dave Heenan, Jose & Patti, Second City.

We really had a great time even if it was short .

Anoop, Ravi and Beyamoni, our room steward, could not have been more accommodating. The rest of the crew was typical Dawn, outstanding !! Good work Hugo.

John Ibraham the CD did a fine job keeping everyone entertained.

Questions ??????

We were able to visit AA 10006, directly above us..The layout is completely different with a lot more closet storage than we had...probably double. A problem is that it's directly under the bridge with no privacy on the front balcony. The occupants were not very happy about that.

The production shows were Band on the Run and Bollywood..Yes it still running..:(

They had 2 for 1 specials every night for Bamboo, Impressions and Salsas.

Loved the review, Rich! Sounds like you two had a great suite & a lot of fun.

I see "Jose" continues to be the common denominator on many Dawn threads with his martini clinics.

Forgot to tell you I had my very first martini ever on the Gem TA. It was made with cranberry jc. Always good to try something new.;) I only had one - didn't want to push my luck.

Sounds like Hugo and team did their usual great job.:D

Thanks, I was just getting ready to ask about the difference, as we have 10006 for the repo next fall. We were in the same location (10004) on the Jewel, and didn't mind the lack of privacy. Any other differences? On the Jewel, there is no alcove for the dining table on the 9th deck AA's.

Been 2x on the Spirit + 1x on the Jewel. Love the outdoor breakfast zone in the back of the ship on the Jewel.

A few questions:

What makes the Dawn your favorite ship?

The 2 for 1 specials - how to obtain?

Is there a Jazz brunch? We quite enjoyed this on the Spirit.

Thanks ever so much,

B

Don't know why they wedge the clinic in between scheduled cocktail parties the first sea day like they do.;) Have you ever gone to any of the margarita clinics?

Was Fire & Ice still on or maybe they were on vacation? Who was performing in Dazzles, Jose & Patti?
